The legal profession in the UAE has lost one of its founders, lawyer Abdullah Rashid Hilal, at the age of 72. He was the third lawyer to obtain a “registration card” in the country. He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Cairo University in the Arab Republic of Egypt in 1976, and had 44 years of experience.
Abdullah Rashid Hilal was born in Umm Al Quwain in 1950. He was known for his good character and kindness. He is considered one of the symbols of the emirate, who has a beautiful imprint. He also contributed to providing legal services and consultations free of charge, and he had white hands. His sudden departure last Tuesday, February 23, 2022, was a shock to those near and far, as the emirate lost one of its loyal sons.
He began his career in law in 1978 after establishing a number of offices in various regions of the country. He served as a member of the Federal National Council (the legislative body in the Emirates) from 1978 to 1983. He was also registered as an arbitrator with the Commercial Arbitration Center of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
He participated in preparing an eight-issue volume containing the rulings of the Courts of Appeal and the Federal Supreme Court in the UAE, issued from 1970 to 1980, and dealt with commercial law cases, real estate claims, arbitration, maritime and air law, in addition to settling disputes through municipal means.
He has acted as an arbitrator in cases ranging from multi-party construction and environmental disputes to arbitrations in commercial, residential and public construction disputes, and has acted as an arbitrator in arbitrations involving performance issues, design and construction defects, schedule delays, cost overruns, financing disputes, site variations and construction changes, and has the ability to represent clients at all levels of litigation and in virtually every area of legal practice.
