The Emirates Consumer Protection Association provided 10 tips for what it called smart shopping during the holy month of Ramadan, and the association called on consumers to prepare a detailed budget by identifying the monthly income and distributing it to the basic expenses, with the allocation of part of the emergency and savings, and setting a list of the necessary needs before shopping and adhering to it, as well as taking advantage of the offers, stressing the importance of proper financial planning during the month of fasting, and commitment The specified budget.
The Chairman of the Association, Mohamed Khalifa bin Azir Al -Muhairi, confirmed to «Emirates Today» that there is a need to avoid waste and extravagance during Ramadan, through smart shopping, by buying appropriate quantities to avoid wasting food and money, and focusing on quality instead of the quantity.
He stressed the importance of verifying the validity of promotional offers before purchasing, and taking advantage of the trusted offers only, and not to buy unless after verifying the compatibility of these offers with the actual consumer needs, and not being drawn from the major cuts without verifying the quality of the product and its necessity for the consumer.
Al -Muhairi called on consumers to compare the prices of products in several sales outlets, to ensure the best value for the price, through the use of reliable applications and sites that help to compare prices easily, indicating the importance of consumer retaining purchase bills to ensure his rights, in the event of any defect or defect in the commodity, or a desire to replace or retrieve, as the invoice is a legal evidence for the purchase process, and helps in submitting Complaints if necessary.
He said that consumer awareness is the cornerstone of protecting his rights, and ensuring that he gets the best goods and services, pointing out in this regard that the conscious consumer realizes his rights and responsibilities, which enables him to make enlightened purchasing decisions, and avoid falling into the trap And the services available in the market.
Al -Muhairi added that the conscious consumer plays a pivotal role in supporting the local economy, by preferring national products and dealing with local commercial outlets, which contributes to enhancing local production, providing new job opportunities, and increasing investments within the country, which enhances the stability of the economy, and guarantees its sustainable development.
Al -Muhairi called on the sales outlets to take into account the needs of consumers, and to provide transparent promotional offers, aiming to reduce the financial burdens on consumers, pointing to the need for these offers to be clear in their details, of high quality, while ensuring that price is clear Fine and transparent.
He pointed out that the sales outlets are committed to securing the availability of basic commodities in adequate quantities and appropriate prices, especially during the month of Ramadan, where the demand for some products increases, in coordination with the relevant authorities to ensure the stability of the market and meet the needs of consumer.
Al -Muhairi stressed that the UAE is committed to protecting consumer rights, and organizing the relationship between them and sales outlets through an integrated legal framework through several legislation, in the forefront of which is Federal Law No. (15) of 2020 regarding the protection of the consumer, which aims to ensure the quality of goods and services, obtain them at the announced price, and maintain the health and safety of the consumer when obtaining the commodity or receiving service.
He pointed out in this regard that the executive regulations of the law issued by Cabinet Resolution No. (66) of 2023 enhances these goals, which detail the mechanisms of coordination between the Ministry of Economy and the relevant authorities to protect consumer rights by obliging the sales outlets to clarify basic data on goods, such as the name of the commodity and its components, the country of origin and the country of export, if any, to ensure the transparency of the information provided to the consumer, as the law stresses On the right of the consumer to obtain correct and clear information about goods and services, including their components, how to use them, their validity and price, with obliging sales outlets to provide high -quality products.
Al -Muhairi stated that the Emirates Consumer Protection Association organizes continuous awareness campaigns through the media and social media platforms, to direct consumers towards the correct purchasing behaviors, and to introduce them to their rights and duties, as well as the association with the Ministry of Economy and the supervisory and concerned authorities to ensure the stability of prices and the availability of basic commodities, stressing the association’s keenness to provide communication channels for consumers to report any violations or commercial practices, And follow these complaints with the competent authorities to ensure their solution quickly and effectively.
