Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan Al Maktoum, Supreme Chairman of the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences, honored the winners of the “Hamdan-UNESCO Award for Developing Teacher Performance,” in its eighth session, during a ceremony held in the main hall of the organization’s headquarters in Paris, the day before yesterday.
The celebration was attended by a group of officials and permanent delegations of UNESCO.
Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan and the accompanying delegation also witnessed – on the sidelines of the honoring ceremony – the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Foundation and UNESCO, regarding programs directed at supporting teachers, which are implemented by the international organization, through the support of the Hamdan Fund – UNESCO.
Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan expressed his appreciation to UNESCO for its continued support in the fields of education, science and culture, and its prominent role in promoting international cooperation, in order to enhance education and develop cultural diversity and innovation, praising the close relations between the international organization and the UAE.
He congratulated the award winners, and praised the great efforts made by the arbitrators and coordinators at the Hamdan Foundation and UNESCO.
He announced new support for the Hamdan Fund – UNESCO with an additional budget to finance new educational programs, including important projects such as the World Report on Teachers for the year 2026, and the Knowledge Center of the Special Task Force on Teachers, with the aim of improving the conditions of teachers around the world, expressing his hope that this award will be An incentive for the winners to continue their educational journey with success and creativity, stressing that education is the ideal investment for building a sustainable and prosperous future.
For his part, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences, Humaid Al Qatami, said that the agreement comes as an extension of the vision of the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to support education and international initiatives aimed at developing the performance of teachers and enhancing their capabilities, stressing the Foundation’s commitment. By investing in the education sector at the global level, by supporting teachers and enabling them to perform their vital role in building societies.
In the context of honoring the winning projects, the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences and UNESCO honored three pioneering projects from Bangladesh, Brazil and Togo, which contributed significantly to developing the performance of teachers and enhancing their influence in improving education systems in their societies.
This honor was held in conjunction with World Teachers’ Day 2024, which came under the slogan “Appreciating the Voices of Teachers: Towards a New Social Contract for Education,” which highlights their importance in shaping the future of education, and incorporating their opinions into educational policies and decisions to comprehensively improve the educational process.
