The Federal Supreme Court approved the handover of the accused Mahdi Sharafa, a French national, to the competent authorities in the Republic of France, upon its request, to be delivered on charges of drug trafficking and money laundering.
The decision came after the accused was exhausted by litigation procedures, and in implementation of the agreement to hand over criminals signed between the UAE and the Republic of France on May 2, 2007.
The Abu Dhabi Federal Appeal Court issued a decision to agree to the extradition of the accused, who later submitted to appeal the ruling before the Federal Supreme Court, which issued at its session held on January 14, 2025 its decision to reject the appeal presented and agree to hand over the accused.
These measures reflect the UAE’s intention to continue working closely with international partners in pursuing international crime.
The agreement to hand over criminals with the Republic of France is one of more than 45 agreements signed by the UAE in recent years with a number of countries.
