The increasing popularity of Jiu-Jitsu in the UAE

The Board of Directors of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation reviewed “the success achieved by the local, continental and international championships that were organized and hosted during the current sports season, and the gains of the Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Championship.” It also reviewed the preparations of the national team to participate in the World Championship hosted by Greece, and the latest preparations for the launch of The 16th edition of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Championship is scheduled for next November, in addition to the 2025 season agenda.
The meeting, which was held at the Federation’s headquarters, reviewed the national team’s preparations to participate in the World Championship hosted by Greece this October, and discussed the plans and outcomes of the intensive training camp.
The meeting highlighted a comprehensive and detailed report on the Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship, which included the technical, financial, marketing and media aspects, while highlighting the indicators of success achieved by the tournament.
The report reviewed the remarkable growth in the number of participants from different age groups, as the tournament witnessed, in its four rounds held so far, the participation of 7,700 male and female players representing 60 clubs and academies across the country.
The report pointed to the large public turnout that reflected the increasing popularity of jiu-jitsu in society, as the total number of public attendance for the four rounds competitions reached more than 10,000 fans, explaining that this increasing public turnout is a major driver for developing the level of tournaments, by creating a competitive atmosphere that motivates players to Provide the best performance.
The fifth and final round of the Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Championship will be held next December at the Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi.
The meeting also discussed the agenda for the 2025 championships, where the focus was on enhancing diversity in events to ensure sustainable development and growth in the sport of jiu-jitsu.
The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Abdul Moneim Al Hashemi, President of the Emirati and Asian Federations and First Vice President of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation, and in the presence of Mohammed Al Dhaheri, Vice President of the Federation, Mohammed bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Yousef Al Batran, and Mansour Al Dhaheri, members of the Board of Directors, Fahd Al Shamsi, member of the Board of Directors and Secretary General of the Federation, and officials. The Union’s executive departments include Mubarak Saleh Al Menhali, Director of the Technical Department, Mohammed Hussein Al Marzouqi, Director of the Marketing and Corporate Communications Department, and Tariq Omar Al Bahri, Director of the Support Services Department.
