Doctors have warned young people and teenagers against smoking medwakh, after it was scientifically proven that the substance used in it, “dizziness,” contains high amounts of carcinogens, in addition to chemicals that affect the heart, arteries, and nervous system, and cause rupture of lung membranes.
They confirmed that dokha contains 10 times the carcinogenic substances found in other smoking methods, such as shisha and cigarettes, in addition to containing 30 times more nicotine than what cigarettes contain, which causes the smoker to become extremely addicted, as he receives this percentage in a few seconds.
The President of the Emirates Oncology Society, Professor Humaid bin Harmal Al Shamsi, warned against smoking medwakh, as it has been scientifically proven to contain many health risks, most notably heart and arterial diseases, in addition to its effect on the nervous system, and the most dangerous of these symptoms is cancer.
Al Shamsi stated that many smokers mistakenly believe that medwakh is safer and has fewer side effects than other methods of smoking, such as cigarettes or shisha. He pointed out that there are many local studies that have evaluated the contents of medwakh and their dangers – including a study conducted by the University of Sharjah to measure levels of smoking. Nicotine and tar in Dizziness with other tobacco products – Dizziness was found to have much higher levels of both.
Al Shamsi said that smoking in all its forms is increasing among young people and adolescents, noting that one study that evaluated the prevalence of dokha smoking among high school students in the United Arab Emirates showed that 39% had smoked tobacco products, 36% had smoked dokha specifically, and 25% had smoked dokha. % of them are current dizziness users.
He warned of the danger of dizziness, as it causes many respiratory diseases, the most dangerous of which is lung cancer, in addition to 15 other types of cancer, most notably cancer of the mouth, pharynx, bladder, pancreas, breast, and uterine lining in women.
He continued: “One of the most carcinogenic substances is a substance called (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon), which has been found in more than 10 types of dokha, in quantities much higher than in a regular cigarette, and it is considered a major cause of cancers of the lung, skin, bladder, liver, and stomach.”
He pointed out that medwakh is widely spread among young people in the region, although it increases the risk of cardiovascular disease for medwakh smokers and those who smoke it with other types of tobacco.
He added that there are concerns about shop owners who illegally sell dokha and medwakh to minors, because the continued use of tobacco by teenagers will lead to an increase in their rate.
Al Shamsi stressed the importance of educating male and female students about the dangers of medwakh, and stressed the importance of the family’s role in monitoring its children and directing them to stay away from all types of smoking.
For his part, the respiratory disease specialist at Zayed Military Hospital, Dr. Hussein Al-Musabi, said: “Although dokha smoking is relatively new compared to other smoking methods, recent scientific studies have proven its danger, as it has been proven that it contains double levels of nicotine, which the smoker ingests during “Just a few seconds, which causes severe addiction, in addition to the presence of other carcinogenic substances in much higher proportions than those in cigarettes and hookahs.”
He stated that the most health risks faced by medwakh smokers are chronic obstruction of the bronchial tubes, disruption of the lung immune system, and the occurrence of pneumonia at higher rates.
He continued that the majority of medwakh smokers, who visit chest and respiratory disease clinics, are young people and adolescents, which exposes these two groups to more serious health risks at an earlier age, such as heart and arterial diseases, and all kinds of cancers.
Dr. Bassam Mahboub, a consultant in chest diseases at the Emirates Medical Association, stated that studies have shown that dokha contains 30 times more nicotine than regular cigarettes, which causes severe addiction, exposes the user to various types of gum and tooth infections, and makes him susceptible to cancers of the upper respiratory system at higher rates. .
He stressed that “the medwakh contains harmful substances in much higher proportions than other methods, to the point that they may rupture lung membranes, may cause lung failure, and pose a great danger to the health of its consumers.”
According to recent information issued by the World Health Organization, the tobacco industry causes eight million deaths annually in the world, the loss of 600 million trees, 200 thousand hectares of land, 22 billion tons of water, and the emission of 84 million tons of carbon dioxide.
