The Ministries of Education and Energy include oil culture in the school curricula

The Ministry of Education, in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Energy, has introduced purely academic materials related to the process of energy rationalization and contributes to promoting the culture related to oil, in the tenth grade curricula, in order to connect students with an important issue, which is the importance of energy sources and how to rationalize their use, and to increase awareness of the importance of sustainable energy in our lives.


This step, which is considered a precedent and the first of its kind in the region, comes in the context of national efforts towards advancing economic development by providing awareness and educational information to students related to energy, as well as highlighting the role and efforts of the UAE in coordination and cooperation with local and international bodies and its active participation in international organizations such as OPEC. The Minister of Education, Hussein bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, confirmed that the Ministry, while setting the foundations and standards for the developed curricula in accordance with its improvement plan for education in the country, took into account the involvement of national bodies, including local and federal institutions, in formulating the general frameworks for these curricula in a way that achieves complementarity and comprehensiveness, in order to come up with profound visions. It is clear and carries meaningful educational connotations and concepts through which we seek to instill awareness and a sense of community in the student to prepare him for the future in a way in which he will be more prepared to engage in practical life and meet the state’s directions. He said that the materials included in the curriculum related to promoting oil culture come as a result of cooperation with the Ministry of Energy, and within the framework of joint work to come up with clear data and lessons that express the reinforcements and importance of energy rationalization in the UAE in line with the state’s approach to achieving a green and sustainable economy, and in a way that contributes to building Generations are aware of the extent of responsibility and are aware of the reality of their economy and ways to provide it with the factors that develop it and move it to advanced stages.

He continued that the oil wealth that the state possesses requires conscious generations who are better at behaving and dealing with it, and working to extend it with innovative methods that contribute to its sustainability by stimulating the minds of students towards coming up with innovative and creative ideas to rationalize energy and preserve it from waste, in addition to developing alternative solutions for oil through access to innovations and methodologies. He described that the next stage requires concerted efforts and working together in order to achieve national indicators and empower students with 21st century skills, stressing that cooperation with the Ministry of Energy will be on a large scale to ensure spreading community awareness among students, teachers and parents about the importance of energy and how to rationalize it, within the framework of the state’s directions. For his part, Minister of Energy Suhail Muhammad Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei said that the Ministry is keen to raise awareness and educate the generation by including this information in academic curricula with the aim of spreading petroleum culture to students, teachers and their parents, stressing that the Ministry has future plans that focus on students through their care and support and issuing publications.
