The Ministry of Education launched the “National Strategy for Higher Education 2030” as part of the annual meetings of the UAE government, which concluded yesterday in the capital, Abu Dhabi.
The strategy emphasizes the necessity of providing students with technical and practical skills to be productive and able to advance the economy in the public and private sectors, in addition to its keenness to graduate generations of specialists and professionals in vital sectors, to be a major building block in building a knowledge economy, and to participate effectively in the paths of research, entrepreneurship, and the labor market. While 33 basic initiatives were identified to stimulate action and implement the strategy.
The Minister of Education, Hussein bin Ibrahim Al Hammadi, confirmed that education represents a priority in the leadership’s directions, and has gone through multiple stages over the past years, and today the state is establishing, through the “Higher Education Strategy 2030,” the goal of making it the first model in the world, the basis of which is the student armed with the tools of the future.
He stated that the strategy depends on developing an innovative educational system, enhancing student skills as the cornerstone of the educational process, involving the private sector in the process of continuous development and modernization, and focusing on research and studies and developing innovative academic programs that enhance the country’s global competitiveness.
For his part, Minister of State for Higher Education, Dr. Ahmed bin Abdullah Humaid Belhoul Al Falasi, confirmed that the education sector receives great attention from the leadership of the UAE, which is keen to provide our children with scientific and academic skills and knowledge, and places them at the top of its priorities, due to its absolute belief that education is the basis for Building generations capable of achieving the UAE’s vision of reaching the best ranks in the world, and it is also the basis for ensuring the continuation of the process of excellence and leadership in all fields.
He added that the strategy is a practical embodiment of the directives of the UAE leadership to build a generation that is proficient in the tools of excellence, innovation, and knowledge of the future, adheres to its values and national identity, and is capable of finding solutions to the problems it faces, especially in the sectors most closely related to human life.
He stated that the UAE is keen, by benefiting from all global experiences and expertise, and building partnerships and cooperation with those with pioneering experiences, to provide a unique global model in advancing education and developing its methods and tools, to be an example to be followed in building generations capable of departing from traditional frameworks and innovating solutions and ideas. The strategy identified 33 basic initiatives to stimulate work and implement the strategy, including: the “National Quality Framework Initiative,” which aims to develop flexible national standards capable of understanding local needs and alternative models, while developing an effective system for quality control and transparent classification of outputs.
The strategic initiatives focus on benefiting from the Private Sector Council, by introducing an expanded professional experiences initiative to expand the options for professional experiences available to students in all areas of training, such as working on campus, learning with experienced employees, joint projects and vocational training.
In addition, the strategy includes the “Investment in Knowledge Initiative” to triple the number of doctoral students, by increasing support for funding graduate studies and enhancing the attractiveness of higher education.
It proposes the “Competitive Research Funding Initiative”, by establishing a platform to provide the necessary funding for research within vital sectors, and stimulating cooperation between higher education institutions and the private sector, and the “Analytics Initiative” to improve study completion rates among students, to track the academic paths of students and deal with those who are at risk of withdrawing.
