The sailing team competes in “Optimist Asia and the Pacific”


The national team for modern sailing is participating in the “Optimum” categories in the Asia-Pacific Championship, which was launched in Hong Kong and continues until January 5th.

A press statement stated: “The participation of the national team for modern sailing comes within the strategic plan of the Emirates Modern Sailing and Rowing Federation, headed by Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, in order to provide opportunities for national teams for all categories in modern sailing sports.”

The Asia-Pacific Modern Sailing Championship (Optimist) brings together more than 120 male and female athletes, representing the teams of 20 countries.

The national team’s list includes four members who were selected according to the standards of the technical committee and the official results in the competitions of the (Emirates Champion 2024) series rounds. They are: Khalifa Al Rumaithi, who won the Optimist Buds gold medal and the overall ranking in the 16th Arab Championship in Kuwait 2024, the 12-year-old gold medal, and the Gulf Games silver medalist. For youth (UAE 2024), and the gold medalist in the 15th Arab Games in Algeria 2023. The list also includes Abdullah Al-Zubaidi, winner of the Optimist Boys and General gold medals and silver in the Gulf Youth Games (UAE 2024) teams, in addition to racer Simon Hristov and racer Nila Bajak. The team is accompanied by sailing technical director Zuhair Labat and coach Ahmed Alper.
