The UAE aims to produce 14.2 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030

Engineer Ahmed Al Kaabi, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for the Electricity, Water and Future Energy Sector, confirmed that the UAE continues its global leadership in the transition towards sustainable energy, through its ambitious strategies and pioneering initiatives that contribute to building a sustainable future, at the national and global levels.

He explained during his participation in the high-level committee session on energy transition paths in emerging economies, organized by the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), that the UAE realized early on the importance of adopting clean energy to protect the planet and ensure the future of future generations, and that in this context, it invested The UAE has significantly invested in renewable energy projects, enabling it to be the first country in the region to sign the Paris Agreement, commit to reducing carbon emissions nationwide, and set the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

Al Kaabi pointed to the achievements achieved during the past two decades, as the UAE launched the “Masdar” company, which has become a pioneer in promoting the use of renewable energy locally and internationally, stressing that the clean and renewable energy sector in the UAE is witnessing unprecedented growth, and that the country aims to achieve a production capacity of 14.2 gigawatts by 2030, with three of the largest solar power plants in the world.

Al-Kaabi highlighted the distributed solar energy systems project, which helps Union Water and Electricity Company customers generate electricity from solar energy, by installing solar panels on the roofs of their properties, and then transferring the resulting energy to feed the public network, which contributes to enhancing the total output of energy sources. Renewable.

Regarding nuclear energy, Al Kaabi stressed that the UAE recorded another achievement by being the first Arab country to use peaceful nuclear energy through the “Barakah” station, which meets 25% of electricity needs from a carbon-free source, indicating that the country is greatly focused on developing hydrogen technologies. Low carbon, with an ambitious plan to produce 15 million tons per year by 2050, strengthening its position as a global leader in this field.

He also stressed that the UAE continues to lead global efforts in the field of renewable energy through international partnerships, as a founding member of the International Renewable Energy Agency, in addition to its local initiatives such as the National Demand Management Program and the Government Building Modernization Project, which contributes to improving energy and water efficiency and reducing costs.

Al Kaabi stressed the UAE’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, expressing his confidence that the country’s clear vision and wise leadership will continue to push it towards a more sustainable future.
