The UAE is among the 35 countries that have the largest global maritime fleets in terms of weights and tonnage, according to the 2024 United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) report, along with three other Arab countries: Saudi Arabia, Oman, and Qatar.

The Statistical Center for the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf stated that 10 Gulf container ports were ranked among the 70 most efficient ports in the world for the year 2024, out of 405 ports in the world.

The Center reported that the percentage of the Gulf commercial fleet of ships represents 54.2% of the total Arab fleet of commercial ships for the year 2023, while the data shows that most of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries exceeded the Arab average in the index of connectivity to the regular maritime navigation network, as it recorded 100.5 in 2023, and the number of sea ports reached The main Gulf port will reach more than 25 ports in 2024.

Regarding container productivity, two Gulf ports appeared in the list of ports with large production, which produce more than four million containers, and eight ports in the list of medium production, whose production ranges between 0.5 and four million containers.

The center pointed to the sustainable development witnessed in the infrastructure of major sea stations and ports, making them leading global logistics centers. He stressed that maritime navigation and Gulf ports play a vital strategic role as one of the main centers for operations of global maritime transport and logistics companies.

The Unified Maritime Operations Center is considered one of the most prominent achievements of close cooperation between the GCC countries, as it contributes to protecting territorial waters and ensuring freedom of navigation, which enhances security and stability in the GCC region.
