The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure confirmed that the number of current electric vehicle charging points nationwide has reached 1,000 by the end of 2024, pointing out that the UAE is the fastest growing market for clean and renewable energy sources in the region.

The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, said: “The UAE’s investments in energy projects within the country confirm its commitment to contributing to the stability of global energy markets and achieving sustainable development.”

He added, “The energy landscape in the UAE aims to achieve a strategic balance between traditional and clean energy sources, which represents a fundamental pillar within the objectives of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the National Hydrogen Strategy 2050.”

In statements to the Emirates News Agency, WAM, on the occasion of the launch of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week, Al Mazrouei stressed the UAE’s commitment to the goals of the Strategic Initiative for Climate Neutrality 2050 through ambitious renewable and clean energy projects, in addition to strengthening the country’s leadership in developing advanced infrastructure for energy transmission and distribution regionally and globally. Pointing out that “the country continues its efforts to sustain the energy sector, diversify its sources, and advance the transition to clean energy, as the UAE is the fastest growing market.” Growth of clean and renewable energy sources in the region.”

He said, “The UAE is moving forward towards achieving more achievements in the energy sector through solar energy projects, the National Program for Peaceful Nuclear Energy, hydrogen energy and waste-to-energy projects. The country aims to reach a carbon-free future by employing advanced technologies and developing and employing modern technology.” ».

Al Mazrouei pointed out that the new explorations that were announced contribute to enhancing oil and gas reserves to support national and global energy security, in addition to increasing the UAE’s production capacity, which contributes to strengthening its position as a reliable source of energy worldwide.

Regarding plans to increase electric car charging points nationwide, Al Mazrouei explained that a national policy has been developed to support the spread of electric and hybrid vehicles in the UAE, and to activate pricing for fast and regular charging services to support investment in charger infrastructure.

He stated that “the Ministry is currently working on standard specifications for fast and regular charging devices to ensure the quality of the devices used in the country, in addition to working on launching a guide for installing charging devices.”

He pointed out that the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Union Water and Electricity Company launched their joint project “Emirates Company for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations” UAEV, which aims to provide a fast and advanced infrastructure for electric vehicles throughout the Emirates, and to support the process of increasing charging stations in the country with a focus on foreign investments. The number of current charging points for electric vehicles reached 1,000 by the end of 2024 nationwide, of which 100 charging points were installed by the company, adding that the goal is to increase the number of charging points nationwide to 10. Thousands by 2030, and 30,000 charging points by 2050.

He said, “The UAE, under the leadership’s directives, achieved first places in seven indicators of global competitiveness in the energy sector in 2024: first place globally in the 100% access to electricity index, first place globally in the 100% electricity supply reliability index, and first place globally in the 100% electricity supply index.” Access to clean cooking fuel, in addition to first place globally in the Green Hydrogen Production Competitiveness Index, first place in the Hydrogen Market Readiness Index in the Middle East and North Africa region, and second place globally in the Green Hydrogen Production Index. Per capita consumption of solar energy, and fifth place globally in the energy infrastructure index.
