Teachers in public and private schools reported that some students’ reliance on artificial intelligence programs, such as “GPT Chat” technology, in preparing research, reports, and school projects weakens their personal and scientific skills, and thus deprives them of obtaining the final grade as a result of excessive reliance on technology, rather than effort. Personal, pointing out that this technology, despite its ease of use, lacks in-depth analysis or presentation of different points of view, from multiple and reliable sources, which leads to a lack of correct reporting standards, and hinders the student from achieving full grades.
They added that artificial intelligence may provide accurate and organized answers, but it lacks the personal and creative touch when formulating research and reports written by it, and it often formulates written texts with abilities that clearly exceed the levels of students, proving their total dependence on it.
Arabic language teacher, Fatima Al Zaabi, said: “When the teacher assigns students to prepare projects or reports on topics related to the lessons explained in the class, he instills in them the skills of preparing reports that they will need in the future at university and at work. With the many technological developments that facilitate human life, relying on them completely may have a negative impact on them, if they do not familiarize themselves with the knowledge and books from which they will extract information.”
She added: “Although artificial intelligence can complete a report in a few seconds, it has some shortcomings because it contains excerpts from unreliable sources, or content taken from the Internet without documentation of the necessary references, which is considered one of the reasons for depriving students of obtaining the final grade.” .
While the design and innovation teacher at a private school, Ahmed Azzam, stressed the importance of the student adding his personal touch and highlighting his skill in organizing and analyzing information when using technology, considering that copying information without developing it is harmful to his learning and creative abilities.
He added that the student will not get a full grade if he uses artificial intelligence tools, such as GBT Chat, if he uses them incorrectly, because this affects his academic and personal skills.
In addition, the Arabic language teacher at a private school, Shehnaz Muhammad, said that some students make positive use of artificial intelligence, but total reliance on it may lead to negative results, such as a weakening of their ability to complete the required tasks. She added that excessive reliance on artificial intelligence may reduce students’ benefit from teachers’ guidance and supervision, which negatively affects the quality of reports and weakens the practical skills that students must acquire.
A biology teacher at a private school, Mahmoud Ahmed, confirmed that teachers face challenges in evaluating students’ research that relies on artificial intelligence, as it becomes difficult to determine the extent of the student’s understanding of the material, or his ability to put forward independent ideas, explaining that total reliance on it weakens students’ analytical and creative skills. .
A number of students confirmed that artificial intelligence technologies, such as “GBT Chat,” have become an innovative means that contributes to enhancing their academic skills, by facilitating access to information and organizing ideas more efficiently, in addition to obtaining accurate answers in a very short time.
Student Laila Ali, from the 12th grade, explained that artificial intelligence is a powerful tool for improving academic performance if used correctly. She said: “I can rely on it to explore various sources and arrange ideas in a systematic way.”
Student Ahmed Khaled Al Hammadi, from the 12th grade, praised the ability of artificial intelligence to save time and effort, adding that technology helps him access accurate information quickly, which gives him a greater opportunity to focus on analysis and creativity in his reports, while the student Reem Abdullah Al Naqbi, from the 10th grade, emphasized She said that the use of artificial intelligence enriches her academic experience, pointing out that she benefited from these technologies in organizing her information, solving her homework, and preparing for tests with standard and easy answers, while adding to the answers. For his part, student Khaled Mahmoud, from the 12th grade, pointed out the importance of artificial intelligence in providing him with accurate information, and said: “Technology helps me expand my awareness and gain a deeper understanding of topics, especially when I use it with awareness and balance.”
