Traffic control devices in Dubai monitor “shocking” behavior of drivers

The Dubai Police General Traffic Department monitored dangerous behavior of a number of drivers who were distracted from the road in various ways, including a person who distracted the driver sitting next to him in a strange way, by placing the phone in front of his eyes to watch something together. It also monitored a woman talking on two phones at once. One while driving, and another reads a newspaper that completely obscures the view using both hands.

Acting Assistant Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police for Operations Affairs, Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, told Emirates Today that being distracted from driving, whether by using a mobile phone or in any way, is considered an extremely serious violation that represents a common factor in many fatal and serious accidents, pointing out Dubai Police has advanced control devices to monitor these dangerous and “shocking” behaviors and document them with cameras.

In detail, Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei reported that electronic control devices detected unexpected behavior on the part of drivers, reflecting a kind of lack of awareness of the dangers of being busy off-road, including a person who was sitting next to the driver, and suddenly decided to show him something on his phone, thus distracting his attention. The driver is completely out of driving.

The electronic control devices also monitored a driver holding two mobile phones in both hands, and talking on them at the same time while driving, posing a great danger to her behavior. They also monitored a person reading a large publication that completely obscured the road in front of his eyes.

Al Mazrouei pointed out that traffic culture has improved significantly among a large segment of society, but there remain behaviors that are unacceptable or not expected by a group of drivers, such as people placing their children on their feet while driving, thus threatening the safety of children, their personal security, and the lives of others. Of road users.

He stressed that Dubai Police is keen to develop the smart control system, in a way that enhances the safety of community members and protects them from such unacceptable behaviour, noting that using a mobile phone while driving is a common behavior in light of many people’s obsession with social media and their preoccupation with chatting or browsing their accounts.

He continued that these people are not deterred and do not realize the seriousness of their behavior until after being exposed to an accident, as preoccupation with using the phone in particular is closer to disabling the most important senses or vital functions that are used in driving, and the person drives as if he had his eyes closed, and then is unable to act quickly in the event of an accident. Emergency on the road.

He explained that the seriousness of this violation doubles if it is combined with other factors such as excessive speed, pointing out that there are accidents that, when analyzed or planned by traffic experts, become clear that the drivers responsible did not take any reaction or acted late, which reflects their preoccupation with something when they committed it. The accident.

He stressed that the Dubai Police strategy related to traffic control systems is based on a careful study of the causes of accidents and a careful analysis of drivers’ behaviours, and then determines their needs and develops control devices based on that, pointing out that monitoring the violation of busyness other than the road and other violations related to the driver’s behaviour, is done with high precision using Artificial intelligence technologies and high-quality cameras.

He stressed that the Emirate of Dubai is considered a cultural interface and a destination for all nationalities in the world, and in light of its wonderful road infrastructure, it is natural to enhance traffic awareness and control, because the traffic accident index is an important factor in classifying the quality of cities and countries.

He pointed out that a person’s adherence to traffic laws and not being busy with the phone would completely exempt him from the violation, and guarantee him, his family, and other road users safety from the dangers of traffic accidents.

Dubai Police recorded more than 100 accidents during the past year, resulting in the death of eight people and the injury of more than 60 others, due to a violation of busyness other than the road, especially using a mobile phone while driving.
