UAE Urges Immediate Ceasefire at Third International Conference on Sudan in Berlin

UAE calls for immediate ceasefire and unhindered aid at the Third International Conference on Sudan in Berlin, pledging sustained humanitarian support.

Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, represented the United Arab Emirates at the Third International Conference on Sudan in Berlin and used the platform to press for an immediate ceasefire.
He reiterated the UAE’s continued commitment to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people and to support efforts that advance security, stability and a dignified life for civilians across Sudan.
The minister underscored the conference’s focus on strengthening humanitarian access, pursuing a humanitarian truce and fostering a political pathway to a civilian-led transition.

UAE Minister Calls for Immediate Ceasefire

Sheikh Shakhboot reiterated that the UAE’s primary objective is to secure an immediate ceasefire between the warring parties in Sudan.
He said that an unconditional humanitarian truce is essential to allow unimpeded delivery of urgent relief and to protect civilians who continue to bear the brunt of the conflict.
The minister condemned violations committed by both sides and stressed the necessity of safeguarding non-combatants and civilian infrastructure.

Humanitarian Truce and Aid Access Prioritised

Delegates at the Sudan conference in Berlin focused on measures to expand humanitarian corridors and ease restrictions on relief operations.
The UAE emphasised the need for safe, sustained and unrestricted access for humanitarian organisations to reach besieged communities throughout Sudan.
Officials described the humanitarian situation as catastrophic and called for rapid mobilisation of resources to address immediate needs such as food, medical care and shelter.

Support for Civilian-Led Transition Reaffirmed

A central theme of the conference was the transition to an independent, civilian-led government free from domination by armed groups or extremists.
The UAE reiterated its backing for a political settlement that would culminate in a civilian administration accountable to the Sudanese people.
Speakers underlined that a credible transition process must be inclusive and accompanied by security guarantees to prevent renewed violence.

Regional and International Coordination Strengthened

On the sidelines of the Sudan conference, Sheikh Shakhboot held a series of bilateral and multilateral discussions to deepen coordination with regional and global partners.
The meeting brought together representatives from Germany, the European Union, France, the United Kingdom, the United States and the African Union, reflecting broad international engagement.
The UAE called for increased cooperation across African and international stakeholders to spare no effort in ending the civil war and stabilising Sudan.

Quad Engagement and Diplomatic Initiatives Highlighted

Sheikh Shakhboot noted that the UAE, through the Quad mechanism, has consistently advocated for an immediate and unconditional humanitarian truce.
He described Quad efforts as a vehicle for sustained diplomatic pressure aimed at achieving a permanent ceasefire and supporting a viable political roadmap.
The UAE reaffirmed its intention to continue leveraging diplomatic channels alongside humanitarian initiatives to advance peace and stability.

Conference Builds on Paris 2024 and London 2025 Outcomes

Participants framed the Berlin meeting as a continuation of international momentum established at the Paris 2024 and London 2025 conferences on Sudan.
Organisers and attendees said the conference seeks to translate prior commitments into concrete steps that enhance security, expand humanitarian relief and accelerate the political process.
Delegates emphasised coordinated follow-up actions to ensure that pledges are implemented and that aid reaches those most in need.

The UAE reiterated that its position on the crisis has been steadfast since the conflict’s outbreak in April 2023, and committed to working alongside regional and international partners to secure a peaceful future for Sudan.
As the international community marks the third anniversary of the war, Sheikh Shakhboot’s interventions at the conference in Berlin highlighted both urgent humanitarian priorities and the longer-term necessity of a civilian-led political transition.
The UAE pledged continued humanitarian assistance and diplomatic engagement as part of wider efforts to stabilise Sudan and support its path toward recovery and sustainable development.
