Article (84) of the new regulation stipulates that “the new driving licenses, which are issued for the first time, are valid for two years, while the renewed licenses will extend for 10 years, renewable for a similar period for citizens, and five years are renewable for similar periods for non -citizens.”
The same article approved a text that “a decision of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, upon the recommendation of the Federal Traffic Council, is permissible to create new categories of the aforementioned driving licenses, or to issue driving licenses with less periods, not less than one year.”
Al -Zafin said that “the new list of traffic and traffic is aimed at reducing the accidents of drivers, who suffer from serious diseases that negatively affect their driving on the road,” noting that serious accidents occurred during the past years, as a result of the driver’s loss of the ability to drive due to an epileptic seizure, or a sugar coma , Or others.
He continued, “Ensuring that drivers are free of dangerous diseases, which negatively affect their ability to drive, requires the development of an electronic link mechanism between traffic departments, the Ministry of Health and local health bodies, as well as health institutions and private clinics, to inform the license authority in the event of the driver with any disease It negatively affects his ability to drive, and then studying a procedure by stopping driving based on a medical recommendation, whether it is permanently or temporarily until the cause is removed.
He pointed out that «there are ongoing discussions with the relevant health authorities regarding the implementation of the electronic linking, and the identification of diseases that may negatively affect the ability to drive based on the opinion of the specialized doctors, and among the most prominent nominated diseases: epilepsy, heart, and diabetes, in addition to other diseases, which will be announced.
