Emirates and flydubai operated about 25,400 flights during the peak summer season last July, compared to 24,600 flights during the same period last year 2023, according to Cirium, an airline research firm.
According to data from the institution, a copy of which was obtained by “Emirates Today”, the total number of Emirates Airlines flights during July reached 14,855 flights, compared to 10,609 flights for “Fly Dubai”, indicating that the two carriers recorded continuous growth rates in air traffic.
In addition, data issued by Emirates Airlines and Flydubai showed a continuous increase in the number of destinations within the global network of the two carriers, with their flights operating to more new destinations in the six continents of the world, including increasing the number of flights and seat capacity to other destinations for both passenger and cargo services.
According to the data, the total destinations of the two carriers have now reached 277 global destinations, with Emirates’ network comprising 152 destinations, including 10 cities served by the freighter fleet in more than 70 countries regionally and globally, while flydubai’s network has grown to reach 125 destinations in 58 countries, including 75 destinations that did not have direct air links with Dubai, or were not previously served by direct flights from the emirate.
The total number of aircraft in the fleet of the two carriers reaches 348 aircraft, including 260 aircraft in the Emirates fleet, with an average age of 10.1 years, in addition to a modern and efficient fleet consisting of 88 Boeing 737 aircraft for flydubai.
Emirates Airlines
In June of this year, Emirates launched its new service to the Colombian capital, Bogota, expanding the carrier’s network of destinations in South America to four destinations, and bringing its operations in the Americas to 19 destinations.
Emirates has announced the launch of a new service from Dubai to Madagascar starting from September 3, providing more options and connections for passengers. The carrier will operate four flights per week between Dubai International Airport and Antananarivo, via Seychelles.
In May, Emirates resumed flights to the Cambodian capital, Phnom Penh, with a daily flight via Singapore, expanding Emirates’ Far East network to 21 points, while the number of flights to Singapore will increase to four daily flights.
The carrier has also enhanced its services to a number of existing stations within its network by operating additional flights and increasing seat capacity, as it announced the enhancement of its operations to Seoul by adding three flights per week starting from February 19, 2024, bringing the number of flights to the Korean capital to 10 flights per week.
Fly Dubai
Since the beginning of this year, flydubai has launched flights to a number of new destinations, and in January 2024, it began direct flights to the Kenyan city of Mombasa, becoming the first national carrier to operate flights to this city with four flights per week, bringing flydubai’s network in Africa to 12 destinations in 11 countries.
flydubai also announced the launch of its operations to Penang and Langkawi in Malaysia, starting from 10 February, expanding the carrier’s network in Southeast Asia to four destinations in two countries: Langkawi and Penang in Malaysia, and Krabi and Pattaya in Thailand. flydubai also added the Russian city of Sochi to its network, with three flights a week. As of 18 April, flydubai started flights to Al Jouf Airport and Red Sea International Airport in Saudi Arabia with two flights a week.
In July, flydubai launched regular flights to Islamabad and Lahore in Pakistan, and in August it launched regular flights to Basel, becoming the first national airline from the country to operate direct flights from Dubai.
