A worker from an Asian country died as a result of being struck by a thunderbolt the day before yesterday evening in the city of Al Ain, after being exposed to a lightning storm that struck the roof of one of the estates in the area where the deceased worked.

The National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority stated, as part of “Your Guide in Emergency Situations” – which includes instructions for individuals on how to prevent disaster risks and others – that in the event of a thunderstorm, one must act consciously and search for a safer haven, and avoid approaching metal objects or taking cover. Under a tall tree.

She explained that “lightning is the dazzling light that suddenly appears in the heart of the sky when weather conditions are disturbed. It is a powerful spark resulting from the collision of two clouds, one of which carries a negative electrical charge and the other a positive one. This light is followed by a loud sound from the direction of the sky called thunder, and the two are called thunder.” Together with the name “Thunderbolt.”

She continued, “It turns out that most of those who were struck by lightning were seeking shade or taking shelter in a tree, and this is the most dangerous thing a person does during a thunderstorm, because trees and tall buildings help lightning bolts reach the ground. For this reason, care was taken to provide the roofs of buildings with lightning rods, which are strips.” Metal absorbs electricity and discharges its deadly charge into the ground. The lightning rod absorbs its charge and discharges it into the ground safely away from the building because the amazing energy of a lightning bolt is capable of destroying any “Something falls in her way.”

For his part, the Director General of Civil Defense in Abu Dhabi, Colonel Muhammad Abdul Jalil Al Ansari, stated that “in the event of a thunderstorm, individuals must enter the nearest building, and avoid standing or sitting under trees, or in open spaces, in addition to the necessity of installing lightning rods on Rooftops of buildings and cars.

He stressed “the necessity of avoiding standing near telephone poles or electrical power when using the telephone, not standing in a high area, and staying away from metals and iron such as barbed wire,” calling on estate owners to be careful to follow protection and prevention guidelines for workers.

Al-Ansari called for “taking the maximum preventive measures and precautions against the danger of lightning and lightning, and following weather forecasts and monitoring the weather, and what may suggest the imminence of storms, such as the proliferation of dark cumulus clouds, hearing thunder in the distance, or seeing lightning in a somewhat distant direction,” stressing the necessity of following… Instructions for public safety and prevention requirements through the use of appropriate materials in the construction of farms, estates, and facilities attached to them.”
