More than 600 scouts and leaders participated yesterday in the opening ceremony of the Al Marmoom Environmental Scout Camp, whose activities began on December 13 and will continue until the 19th, in the Al Marmoum Reserve in Dubai.
The ceremony included segments that reflected the spirit of Scouting, including performances that demonstrated the skills and abilities of the participants, as well as segments that embodied Scouting’s values and established principles.
The opening ceremony was attended by prominent state officials, as well as representatives of Arab and international scouting organizations.
Organizing the camp in Al Marmoom Reserve confirms the UAE’s commitment to protecting the environment and promoting sustainability, in addition to being an ideal platform for developing youth skills and enabling them to lead the future.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates Scouts Association, Dr. Salem Al Darmaki, said in his opening speech that the camp comes in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him, which aimed to activate the activities of the Al Marmoom Reserve.
He added that His Highness directed that the Dubai Scouts Commission be one of the bodies charged with activating tourism and desert activities, with the aim of introducing the reserve locally and regionally, while working to establish a global environmental scout camp run entirely with clean energy, and continuing to promote the “The Most Beautiful Winter in the World” initiative, by inviting young people. And young people to camp and enjoy the reserve.
Al Darmaki continued that the meeting this year comes one year after the 33rd Arab Scout Camp, which he described as a beautiful dream that brought together all Arabs, and was exceptional in all its aspects, explaining that the UAE achieved new records in this camp, confirming its excellence and leadership, thanks to the leadership’s directives. Al-Rashida.
He pointed out that the current camp is characterized by strategic cooperation with the Ministry of Education, the primary partner of the Emirates Scouts Association, explaining that this cooperation came as a result of years of work to establish scouting teams within government schools, with the aim of contributing to the role of the school and the ministry, through scouting activities that enhance the values of loyalty. belonging and love of country, and encourages volunteer work as the essence of the Scouting movement, which seeks to raise boys and young men to be active citizens in society. These are principles that are in line with the vision of the largest youth movement in the world, which includes more than 57 million members.
Al-Darmaki confirmed that the Al-Marmoum camp journey began in 2017 as an experimental camp, then developed locally, in the Gulf and in the Arab world, adding that the camp this year has an international character with the participation of Arab delegations, in addition to the Boy Scouts of Armenia and Pakistan, with the aspiration for the camp to become international in the coming years, in fulfillment of the leadership’s vision. The Commander-in-Chief of Al-Marmoum Scout Camp, Khalil Rahma, said that this year’s Al-Marmoum Scout Camp carries the slogan “Scouts are leaders of tomorrow and makers of the future,” and seeks to achieve Dubai Vision 2040 by promoting the culture of eco-tourism and scouting with a global perspective, and placing the camp on the map of global eco-tourism and scouting. It also aims to prepare the camp to be a facilitator for activities and events for people of determination, to promote the concepts of protecting the environment and wildlife, and to confront the challenges of climate change.
He added that the camp seeks to instill positive values and develop the physical and cultural capabilities of young people, in addition to enhancing the spirit of loyalty and belonging to the homeland, and qualifying a generation of young scout leaders capable of managing large gatherings. He also pointed out the design of programs and activities that meet the needs of the participants, including 17 workshops offered by Government agencies, and four external visits, including the Mohammed bin Rashid Library and Expo City Dubai, in addition to adventure and challenging activities in Mushrif Park, and water and mountain events in the city of Hatta.
