The Dubai Police General Traffic Department recorded 803 violations for crossing a red light on the tram route during the first six months of this year, according to the Director of the Department, Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, who indicated that 11,000 violations for crossing a red light were recorded at various intersections in the emirate during the same period. .

Al Mazrouei told Emirates Today that violations sometimes occur as a result of aggressive behavior, and usually result in accidents that lead to serious injuries, pointing out that 65 accidents were recorded as a result of crossing a red light during the first half of this year, resulting in 72 people being injured with varying injuries. 143 vehicles were involved.

He added that there are main reasons that lead to breaking a red light signal, the most prominent of which is that vehicle drivers do not focus on the signal itself, but rather they focus on the vehicles ahead of them, so they cross directly behind it without making sure that the signal has not turned red, which exposes them to this violation.

He pointed out that lack of attention is also one of the main factors in jumping a red light, especially in light of many drivers being busy using mobile phones while driving, pointing out that cameras at intersections filmed vehicles standing in the first waiting line in front of the signal, and then suddenly moving to cut off the signal. The red light before the signal turns green, which indicates that its drivers are busy with something, endangering their lives and the safety of others.

He explained that among the bad behaviors that were also observed and linked to this violation, some drivers behaved in a manner devoid of taste, and they rushed the drivers of the vehicles ahead of them to cross the signal, not caring about the differences that may exist, whether in the level of vehicles and their speed, or the ability of the driver himself to drive quickly while driving. Cross the signal.

He pointed out that an elderly woman complained to the administration about the driver of a vehicle behind her, who kept urgently rushing her to cross, and sounded her car alarm, until she lost her focus and almost caused an accident, stressing that she was not able to make way for him, because she was driving at a signal, in addition to her condition. Health did not allow rapid overtaking.

Al Mazrouei explained that this is not the first complaint of this behavior, as drivers asked the administration to cancel violations for wrongly crossing a red signal, justifying this by saying that cars coming from behind almost collided with their vehicles, due to their drivers’ haste, so they were forced to cross the signal to avoid accidents, pointing out to ensure the truthfulness of their statements. After returning to the cameras.

He reported that there are drivers, on the other hand, who are stubborn towards others while standing at the signals. They deliberately slow down or do not move until seconds before the signal closes, so that others miss the opportunity to cross, or implicate them in breaking the signal. Al Mazrouei considered that the index of violations for breaking the red signal on the tram route is large, and reflects the recklessness of a group of drivers, despite the huge fines due for tram violations, which amount to a fine if the red signal is crossed at the intersection of the road with the railway, without causing an accident. It amounts to 5,000 dirhams, in addition to withdrawing the violating driver’s driving license for a period of no less than 30 days. The value of the fine is doubled if the same violation is committed again within one year from the date of The previous violation, not exceeding 500 thousand dirhams.

He stated that violations of crossing the red light on the tram route resulted in more than three accidents during the current year, the last of which was approximately two weeks ago, in which a vehicle driven by a woman collided with the tram, despite the various measures that are supposed to prevent this.
