The “Economic Partnership” of the Emirates with Costa Rica and Mauritius into effect

The comprehensive economic partnership agreements of the UAE with both Costa Rica and Mauritius entered into force yesterday, which paved the way to enhance trade and investment with emerging economies who have a strategic location.

The comprehensive economic partnership agreements between the UAE, Costa Rica, the Emirates and Mauritius will contribute to the abolition or reduction of customs duties on a wide range of goods, simplifying customs procedures, and creating new paths to invest in priority sectors, whether within the UAE or in the markets of Central America and Africa.

These are the seventh and eighth agreements within the comprehensive economic partnership agreements of the UAE, which enters into force, after the success achieved by the comprehensive economic partnership agreements with India, Israel, Turkey, Indonesia, Cambodia and Georgia since the launch of the program in 2021.

With the state seeking to increase its foreign trade to four trillion dirhams (1.1 trillion dollars), 12 additional agreements have been concluded so far pending ratification, which enhances its position as a global center to facilitate trade and cross goods and services.

“The implementation of comprehensive economic partnership agreements with Costa Rica and Mauritius represents a qualitative step within the foreign trade program of the UAE, and enhances its endeavor to build more integral trade relations with the most dynamic markets around the world,” said Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al -Zyoudi, and enhances its endeavor to build more integral trade relations with the most dynamic markets around the world. It opens new horizons for the private sector and supports common goals from enhancing food security and accelerating the adoption of clean energy.

He added that «the program contributed to achieving a record in non -oil trade during the year 2024, which amounted to 817 billion dollars, an increase of 14.6% compared to 2023, and the country has so far concluded 27 comprehensive economic partnership agreements, allowing Emirati companies to reach more than a quarter of the world’s population.
