Dubai Holding acquires first commercial Rover electric vehicles for Hatta Resorts and Wadi Hub
Dubai Holding acquires first commercial Rover electric vehicles from Go Gravity for Hatta Resorts and Wadi Hub, advancing sustainable mobility and local SMEs.
Dubai Holding has purchased the first commercial batch of the Rover electric vehicle, produced locally by Go Gravity, for use across Hatta Resorts and the Hatta Wadi Hub. The move brings the Rover electric vehicle into frontline service at the desert‑mountain destination and signals Dubai Holding’s push to combine sustainable transport with local SME development. The vehicles, designed and assembled at Hatta Wadi Hub and bearing the “Made in UAE” mark, will support low‑emission guest transfers and onsite operations.
Deal and immediate deployment
Dubai Holding said the acquisition marks a first step in integrating homegrown electric mobility solutions into its Hatta hospitality and leisure operations. The delivered units will be deployed across Hatta Resorts and Hatta Wadi Hub to support guest mobility, operations, and eco‑tourism activities. Dubai Holding framed the purchase as both an operational upgrade and a practical measure to showcase locally developed technology to visitors.
Rover’s design and model range
Go Gravity developed Rover as a fully electric, all‑terrain vehicle tailored to Hatta’s rugged landscape and tourism needs. The model family includes rear‑wheel and four‑wheel‑drive variants, plus a higher‑performance GT specification aimed at more demanding routes. Each variant was engineered and assembled within the Hatta Wadi Hub facility to meet performance and environmental requirements for mountain and desert terrains.
Dubai Holding’s strategic rationale
Rudy Sobra, Vice President of Asset Management at Dubai Holding, described the move as a continuation of the group’s commitment to empower local SMEs and elevate destination experiences. He said Hatta Wadi Hub was always intended as a launching pad for homegrown entrepreneurs, and that adopting an internally developed vehicle fits that mission. Sobra added that the acquisition supports Dubai Holding’s sustainability agenda by accelerating adoption of electric mobility across its leisure portfolio.
Go Gravity’s perspective and operational benefits
Ahmed Ali Al‑Badwawi, co‑founder of Go Gravity, said the project began as a local initiative in Hatta and matured into a product the company now proudly calls “Made in the UAE.” He noted the vehicles were designed to meet operational needs while offering a quiet, emissions‑free mode of transport that enhances visitor experience. Al‑Badwawi also highlighted Dubai Holding’s support as instrumental in enabling Go Gravity to scale production and commercialise the Rover for broader use.
Integration with Hatta’s visitor experience
Operators at Hatta plan to use the Rover electric vehicles for guest transfers, guided eco‑tours, and onsite logistics where low noise and zero emissions are priorities. The vehicles’ all‑terrain capabilities are intended to improve access to trails and remote hospitality units without increasing the environmental footprint. Management expects the quieter, emission‑free operation to complement Hatta’s positioning as an eco‑tourism destination and to help manage visitor flows more sustainably.
Economic and environmental alignment
Dubai Holding said the procurement aligns with broader policy frameworks such as the D33 economic agenda and the UAE’s Net Zero by 2050 strategy. The adoption of locally produced electric mobility supports small and medium enterprises by integrating them into larger commercial ecosystems, while contributing to climate and emissions targets. Officials framed the Rover rollout as a pilot that can inform future procurement and local manufacturing partnerships across the emirate.
The Hatta Wadi Hub itself remains a growing platform for entrepreneurs, housing more than two dozen SMEs operating in adventure, hospitality, food and technology sectors. Go Gravity is among the founding companies at the hub and its Rover project is the latest example of a hub‑based initiative moving into operational rollout. Dubai Holding said it will monitor the vehicles’ performance and guest feedback as it evaluates further scale‑up across Hatta and other assets.
Early deployment of the Rover electric vehicles will be closely watched by sector stakeholders for lessons on operational resilience, maintenance needs, and visitor acceptance of local electric transport solutions. Dubai Holding’s purchase underscores a wider interest in coupling destination development with in‑country manufacturing and emissions reductions, and signals a potential pathway for other UAE hubs looking to showcase domestically produced green technologies.
