Dubai Club Clinches Third Straight 3×3 Wheelchair Basketball Title

Dubai Club for People of Determination beat Khorfakkan 13-10 to win the national 3×3 wheelchair basketball final in Sharjah, claiming a third straight title.

Dubai Club for People of Determination secured the national 3×3 wheelchair basketball crown for a third consecutive season after defeating Khorfakkan 13-10 in the final at Al Thiqa Club hall in Sharjah on June 5, 2026. The victory capped a tournament that featured five clubs and showcased rising standards across the discipline. Dubai’s sustained run underlined the team’s depth and consistency in the growing 3×3 wheelchair basketball scene in the United Arab Emirates.

Final ends 13-10 as Dubai overcomes Khorfakkan

Dubai Club outpaced Khorfakkan in a tightly contested final that finished 13-10, with the winners controlling key stretches of the game through disciplined defence and efficient transition play. The champions converted scoring opportunities at critical moments and managed the clock well to deny their opponents sustained comebacks. Khorfakkan pushed throughout but were unable to overturn Dubai’s lead in the closing minutes.

Coaches from both sides praised the competitive spirit on display and highlighted individual performances that swung momentum. The result reinforced Dubai Club’s position at the top of domestic 3×3 wheelchair basketball and provided a confidence boost ahead of regional competitions.

Al Ain secures bronze with 11-8 victory over Al Thiqa

In the third-place playoff, Al Ain Club for People of Determination defeated Al Thiqa Club for People of Determination 11-8 to claim the bronze medal. Al Ain’s victory was built on a balanced attack and tight defensive rotations that limited Al Thiqa’s scoring runs. The bronze medal match offered younger players a valuable competitive experience in tournament conditions.

Al Thiqa, who hosted the concluding fixtures at their Sharjah hall, were commended for staging the event and for the resilience their squad showed throughout the competition. Both clubs signalled progress in depth and tactical awareness as the domestic calendar advances.

UAE Paralympic Committee leads trophy presentation

The closing ceremony was presided over by Dhiban Salem Al Muhairi, Secretary-General of the UAE Paralympic Committee, who presented trophies and medals to the top three teams. The presentation was attended by Thani Jumaa Al Raqad, chairman of Dubai Club for People of Determination, Dr Khaled Omar Al Madfa, chairman of Al Thiqa Club for People of Determination, and Majid Al Oseimi, an official with the Asian Paralympic Committee and chief executive of Dubai Club for People of Determination. Winners received the championship cup and gold medals, runners-up earned silver, and Al Ain collected bronze.

Officials emphasised the importance of domestic events in preparing athletes for international assignments and thanked host clubs for their logistical support. The ceremony reflected the collaborative partnership among clubs, administrators and the national committee in promoting para-sport.

Champions credit teamwork and sustained development

Thani Jumaa Al Raqad described the third straight title as the result of “integrated collective work” across coaching, management and the playing group. He said the achievement demonstrates the club’s leadership within the UAE’s wheelchair basketball community and reflects long-term planning. Raqad acknowledged the role of the national committee and host clubs in providing competitive opportunities.

Secretary-General Dhiban Salem Al Muhairi noted that retaining the trophy three times in a row is a notable accomplishment that requires steady technical and organisational support. He stressed that maintaining supremacy is often more demanding than initial victory, and praised the high standard of play displayed across the tournament.

Organisers highlight tournament role in player preparation

Tournament organisers from the UAE Paralympic Committee underscored the event’s role as a development platform ahead of regional and continental competitions. The competition offered coaches a chance to evaluate tactics, test emerging talent and sharpen match-readiness in a condensed 3×3 format. Officials said the five-team field reflected growing club-level interest and investment in wheelchair basketball programmes.

Plans were flagged to expand participation and to stage additional domestic fixtures through the season to sustain momentum. The committee emphasised that regular competition is essential for elevating national performance and preparing squads for Asian and international calendars.

Dubai Club’s management credited the coaching staff and medical team for maintaining player fitness and consistency over successive seasons. They vowed to continue building pathways for young athletes and to pursue more titles at regional championships.

The national 3×3 wheelchair basketball league concluded with Dubai Club lifting the trophy, Khorfakkan finishing as runners-up and Al Ain securing third place, underlining the competitive strides being made across the UAE’s para-sport clubs.
