A (Gulf) father handed his son over to the police, for fear of losing his life and his future as a result of addiction to psychotropic substances, especially since he had previously undergone a treatment plan and completely recovered from addiction, but he returned again three years later, and the competent authorities took over to help the young man recover again. However, he was arrested twice on charges of consuming narcotic substances, and was referred to the Criminal Court in Khor Fakkan in two separate cases.

The details of the case go back to a young man (23 years old) being a victim of abuse and addiction. The police had previously arrested him on charges of using psychotropic substances in situations other than those authorized by law. He received the necessary treatment in one of the sanitariums designated for addicts, and completely recovered from addiction, but he returned to it. Again after three years of recovery.

The young man abused to a large extent, which prompted his father to transfer him to the hospital and hand him over to the competent authorities to receive treatment, as a result of his consumption of a quantity of psychotropic substances that affected his general health and began to pose a threat to the safety of his body and life.

One of the specialized clinics provided him with the necessary assistance and allocated a treatment plan with full care that would enable him to get rid of addiction. However, he was arrested twice after that, and two separate cases were opened against him, after he continued to abuse, despite the treatment provided to him.

For his part, the defendant’s defense lawyer asked the Khor Fakkan Criminal Court to refer the young man for treatment in one of the state’s clinics designated for addicts, explaining that “his client was able to abandon addiction and be completely treated from psychotropic substance toxins for three years, but due to the defendant’s young age and the presence of influences around him, Like bad companions and others, he relapsed again and returned to addiction again, so his father sought to help him by informing the competent authorities and filing a report against him with the aim of preserving his life, for fear that he would lose his son. In his hands, as a result of excessive use of psychotropic substances, so he reported his son so that he could fully recover, live his life like other young people, and have goals like all his peers in studying and starting a family.”

In the second case, the Public Prosecution charged the accused with consuming psychotropic substances in cases other than those permitted by law, and requested that he be punished in accordance with the articles of the federal law regarding the control of narcotic substances and psychotropic substances, after the laboratory report proved that the accused had used psychotropic substances during the periodic examination.

The accused admitted before the court that he had taken psychotropic substances in cases other than those permitted by law.

The court decided to imprison the accused for six months in the first case, because he had a previous case of using psychotropic substances. It also ruled that he be imprisoned for two years in the second case, because he was convicted of using psychotropic substances in circumstances other than those permitted by law.
