The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi issued a regulation regarding soil quality in the emirate, which ensures sustainable soil management, in order to preserve the basic functions and vital services of the soil, in order to meet the requirements of its current and future uses, in addition to reducing the damage resulting from soil pollution.

The regulations were prepared in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 16 of 2005 regarding the reorganization of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi, and its amendments, which grants the authority the authority to issue regulations, regulations and executive decisions of the law, in a way that ensures the fight against pollution and the preservation of the quality and safety of air, water, soil and natural resources, and their optimal exploitation to protect humans. And the environment. The Authority coordinated and cooperated with the relevant authorities in the emirate, during the stage of preparing the regulation, and in accordance with the approved system for preparing legislation in the emirate.

The provisions of the regulation apply to wildlife protected areas and unexploited sites in the emirate, in addition to polluted or polluted sites located within the geographical scope of the environmental license issued by the Authority for the facility or project. The regulations specify the requirements for soil quality in wildlife reserve areas, and also specify the obligations of licensed facilities and projects, in terms of taking all necessary measures to reduce potential negative environmental impacts on human health and the ecosystem in general, and on soil quality in particular, in addition to providing the Authority with data on Soil quality in sites subject to the management of facilities and projects, as part of environmental impact assessment studies and environmental licensing applications and in accordance with the Authority’s requirements.

For its part, the Authority implements periodic monitoring, control and evaluation programs to verify the quality of the soil, in addition to evaluation, licensing, inspection and audit activities, and to verify the extent of compliance with the requirements of the regulation.

The Secretary-General of the Environment Agency, Dr. Sheikha Salem Al Dhaheri, said: “Issuing the regulation comes within the framework of developing the legislative system related to preserving the various elements of the environment in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, including soil, which contributes to addressing the potential negative environmental impacts that could arise from development, industrial and tourism activities.” , and other activities, and thus support the Authority’s efforts seeking to preserve the environment and its various elements and sustain it for future generations,” noting that the Authority will implement the requirements of the regulation in The emirate, in coordination and cooperation with strategic partners, and based on systematic and organized procedures, will contribute to achieving the desired goals of this regulation.
