The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research asked universities to facilitate admission standards, to provide the opportunity for more students to enroll in higher education institutions, especially since these standards were not easy for some students before.

The Acting Assistant Undersecretary for the Regulation and Governance of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Hassan Al Muhairi, explained in press statements that part of the admission criteria is based on the instructions that we provide to universities, which stipulate setting standards according to what the specialization requires. For example, if the student is about to study… In medicine or pharmacy, the focus is on his school grades in biology, and the same applies to studying engineering, where the focus should be on his grades in mathematics and physics.

He added: “The aim of this new system is to re-establish policies to facilitate the student’s journey, starting from the general education stage, through the higher education stage, and reaching the labor market.” He pointed out the previous inability of some students to obtain opportunities to enroll in higher education institutions, because the admission criteria She wouldn’t let them.

Al Muhairi continued: “Therefore, the basis on which change depends now is how to make admission standards flexible and smooth, and at the same time provide more flexibility for universities, so that the university can determine the admission standards that suit its educational programs, after we have now given it a greater role in setting the specific admission standards from Part of this work came in cooperation between the Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Education, starting with the cancellation of the Emirates Standard Tests (EMSAT), and then providing a greater opportunity for universities to set admission standards.

He said: “According to the new system, we left the averages and percentages to the universities. The Ministry provides general guidelines to universities, while university institutions in turn work to determine admission standards, so that the university can conduct standard tests or special internal tests to determine the level of students.”

Al Muhairi added: “We always call on universities to provide an easy way as possible to help students obtain greater opportunities to enter university education, or the other option is to provide several levels of qualifications. It is not a requirement that enrollment be with a bachelor’s qualification only, but it is possible to enroll with a diploma or diploma qualification.” Higher education, which increases students’ opportunities to enter the field of higher education, and thus have a greater opportunity to enter the labor market.”

He pointed out that there is greater cooperation with federal universities, because their role is different from private universities, as it depends on preparing citizen students from the UAE. He explained that the Ministry cooperates with those universities to a greater extent, so that students graduating from general education can obtain a greater opportunity for higher education, while he expected Establishing multiple admission criteria will give students a greater opportunity during the coming period.
