The head of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, Dr. Omar Habtoor Al-Darai, stressed the importance of developing the endowments sector and enhancing its role in serving communities. He explained that the UAE has presented a pioneering model in the field of endowment through the “Year of Giving,” “Year of Zayed,” and “Year of Sustainability” initiatives.

This came during his participation in the meeting of the Arab Endowments Union held in the New Administrative Capital in Cairo, in the presence of endowment ministers from member states.

Dr. Omar Habtoor Al-Darai stressed the need for innovation in the field of endowments, calling for presenting realistic models that allow endowment investments among Arab countries, and creating an attractive endowment environment that provides facilities, achieves security and maintenance of endowments, and invests in people.

He also stressed the importance of spreading the culture of endowment and consolidating it in generations, increasing the trust of donors, and efficient financial management of endowments in order to achieve endowment sustainability.

He said that integration and unification of efforts in a way that serves common goals and is in the interest of peoples and achieving safety and stability for them is a consistent approach for the United Arab Emirates and its wise leadership since its founding, as it has been and continues to call for and encourage effective partnerships, especially between Arab and friendly countries.

The head of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat stressed that this union is capable of promoting and developing this sector and charting paths and strategies that will lead it to success, noting that the endowment over time has a great role in serving humanity and social, economic, educational and medical development.

He pointed out that the UAE has provided a pioneering model in the field of endowment through initiatives such as the “Year of Giving,” “Year of Zayed,” and “Year of Sustainability,” calling on member states to exchange experiences and benefit from these successful experiences.

At the end of his speech, Dr. Al-Darai warned of the danger of leaving a vacuum in the field of endowments, especially in light of the challenges facing the world today, such as money laundering and terrorist financing, calling for strengthening cooperation and partnership between the member states of the Union in order to achieve sustainable development goals.
