Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Mualla, Chairman of the Municipality Department in Umm Al Quwain, said that willpower, belief in psychological abilities, positive energy and not listening to negative people give a person an incentive to succeed and develop continuously in all areas of life, stressing that he was able to work and be sincere in order to improve the services provided to the public in the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain, and said that he has headed the municipality since its establishment, and was able to solve many problems that it faced.

He added that the UAE has successful, distinguished and positive leaders who follow the path of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founder of the union, stressing that the people always work to achieve the leadership’s vision and are not satisfied with anything but first place.

“Mother of two powers”

The Emirate of Umm Al Quwain is located on the western coast on the shores of the Arabian Gulf. In the past, it was called “Umm Al Quwain” because it was known for its naval and land forces. Its name was changed shortly before the union to Umm Al Quwain.

The history of the region dates back more than 7,000 years, and the remains have shown its relationship with the Mesopotamian civilization and the Umm Al Nar civilization, as it is an important commercial port on the coasts of the Arabian Gulf. Agriculture flourished in the Bronze Age in the region, and the most important crops were dates, wheat, and other grains, as fresh water was found in sufficient quantities. Sheikh Majid Al Mualla, leader of the Mualla tribe, which is a branch of the Ali tribe, established an independent sheikhdom in Umm Al Quwain after they migrated to the current city site, due to the scarcity of water on the island of Siniyah, where they inhabited. It is believed that the tribe originated from Yemen, and His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Al Mualla signed the agreement to join the union in 1971.

The length of Umm Al Quwain’s coast is about 25 kilometers, and it is devoid of fresh water. It used to import it from the emirates of Sharjah and Ajman, until the opening of Falaj Al Mualla, 50 kilometers from the city, and it began to draw its water from it. Its area is about 750 square kilometers, while the population density reaches 76 people per square kilometer.

Al Mualla told Al-Emarat Al-Youm that he was born in Umm Al Quwain Fort, which was a fortress for ancient rulers and the center of the old city. It later became a police station and is now a museum. He added that he grew up keen on memorizing the Holy Quran since childhood and accompanied his father, the late Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Mualla, in councils, such as the council of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. He grew up loving goodness and wisdom, ambitious, generous, kind-hearted, calm-natured, loving the people, and enjoying intelligence and strong insight.

He added that he has been the mayor of Umm Al Quwain since its establishment in 1975, noting that he always dreams of the country’s continuous development and its position as a prestigious place for decent living and advanced services, pointing out that the UAE faced many obstacles at the beginning of the establishment of the union, but the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his brothers, the rulers of the Emirates, were able to overcome them with wisdom, and took it upon themselves to care for the public interests and affairs of citizens, improve living conditions, develop educational and health services, establish facilities, pave and light roads, and much more, in order to provide a decent life for the citizens of the country.

Al Mualla pointed out that his father, may God have mercy on him, worked alongside the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his brothers, the rulers of the Emirates, with all diligence and determination to establish the edifice of the union, despite all the challenges and obstacles that the brutal British colonialism placed in the face of Arab unity. They did the impossible to achieve this step, describing it as a “dream,” and they walked the path of pride and strength, so God gave them the strength and pride they wanted.

He continued, “After a long life journey, and a journey on the paths of struggle and patience, full of goodness, giving and loyalty to humanity and the land, the owner of achievements and conqueror of challenges, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan, passed away, leaving behind a true legacy and a wonderful model of the authentic Arab leader and man who always puts the interests of his country and citizens first.”

Al Mualla stressed that His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, has wisely led the country to achieve his vision of developing all the Emirates, including the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain, through the implementation of many pioneering projects that have contributed to pushing the wheel of life forward to keep pace with the march of civilized development in the emirate, including Sheikh Khalifa Hospital, which is the largest hospital in the Emirates, equipped with the latest modern devices, and provided with a distinguished medical staff.

He pointed out that Umm Al Quwain has witnessed a boom through the services provided by the President of the State to the citizens of the emirate, such as residential complexes, other infrastructure development projects, and the provision of services that contribute to providing a decent life for citizens and residents, adding that the founding leaders of the union realized the value of the union as a bold launch and a unique and distinguished experience to enhance and consolidate the bonds of cohesion between the emirates of the country, and a blessed step towards its progress and prosperity, strengthening its entity and achieving the aspirations of its people, until the Emirates became a distinguished international model and an influential entity in all international forums.

Al Mualla noted that Umm Al Quwain is a quiet, residential city with few markets, clubs, events and activities, and the lifestyle there is similar to rural neighborhoods that tend toward calm, tranquility and peace of mind, far from the crowds, noise of engines and engine smoke.

Al-Mualla said that he loves the desert nature, valleys, mountains, hunting, shooting, and horse riding. He is passionate about following camel races, and loves selecting and raising them. In some of his free time, he likes to stand on the seashore and contemplate the warm waters of the Gulf. He stressed his keenness to travel outside the country, especially to London and Germany, for recreation and a change of scenery.

Al Mualla has eight sons, Faisal, Ibrahim and Mohammed, and five daughters. He pointed out that he spends his weekend vacation in the Falaj Al Mualla area of the Emirate of Umm Al Quwain on a farm that he owns.
