The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced the cancellation of the Emirates Standardized Test (EMSAT) for 12th grade students, starting yesterday, and granting universities greater flexibility in determining admission criteria so that they can attract students according to their academic and professional aspirations, with the approval of the Education, Human Development and Community Council.

The decision comes as part of the efforts made to develop the national educational system and qualify students for university education and the labor market, in accordance with best practices and standards followed, in a way that is compatible with society’s needs and future aspirations.

The Minister of Education, Sarah bint Youssef Al Amiri, confirmed that the Ministry is continuously working to harmonize and develop its policies in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in a way that supports students in their educational journey at their various stages of study, whether in general or higher education, by making decisions. The guarantee that guarantees the quality and flexibility of the outputs of the national educational system, and its progress and leadership at the global level.

She pointed out the Ministry’s interest in developing and supporting students’ skills in various academic subjects, and working to develop and measure them accurately, through the student performance measurement system that the Ministry has updated, through which it will be able to identify the true level of students’ skills and improve them according to a studied methodology that allows a large amount of space. To measure their skills and hone them optimally.

She indicated that according to the decision, and in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the test will not be required as part of the criteria for accepting 12th grade students into higher education, and will be satisfied with meeting the requirements of higher education institutions and the conditions they set regarding the admission of students there, stressing the importance of harmonizing Policies between all relevant parties to ensure that students transition to higher education smoothly and easily, and to support them to achieve their future ambitions during their academic and professional careers in a way that is compatible with the needs of the labor market and society.

For his part, the Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation and the Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Awar, affirmed the vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research aimed at increasing the opportunities for students to enroll in higher education, so that every student who graduates from the 12th grade has the possibility of joining bachelor’s or higher diploma programs. Or diploma or skills certificate programs, in a way that contributes to preparing them for the labor market in an appropriate manner.

He explained that the new vision will give universities greater flexibility in determining admission criteria, so that they can attract students who do not meet the English language requirement, by registering them in courses that qualify them to reach the required proficiency. Universities will also have the possibility of accepting students and registering them in specialized remedial courses in the event that they do not achieve them. The required grade in the subjects required to study the specialization.

He pointed out that the conditions for admission to medical and engineering specializations will focus more on the degree of the scientific subjects related to the specialization, instead of focusing on the total percentage of the 12th grade, pointing out that the proposals to develop the criteria for accepting students into universities aim to provide diverse academic paths that suit the students’ capabilities and are related to the time. It meets the needs of the labor market, so that generations of specialists and professionals are graduated qualified to compete effectively in the labor market in both the public and private sectors.

He stated that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Ministry of Education are working to achieve flexibility in their educational policies and requirements to receive students in their diverse educational and academic paths, in addition to opening horizons of excellence and leadership for students in a way that meets their future ambitions and the goals of the UAE in its human cadres armed with the best knowledge and skills. .

He added that the Ministry will communicate with the universities to share the details of the next stage and inform them of the latest developments in this regard.

The Ministries of Education and Higher Education and Scientific Research called on students and parents to learn about the admission requirements for each university, and according to the academic specialization that the student wishes to study, through direct communication with the relevant higher education institutions, and to meet those requirements in accordance with the applicable rules and systems, explaining that Canceling the test will not affect the equivalency requirements for private school curricula, except for those that apply the American curriculum, as students in this curriculum must register to take alternative standardized tests to the “EMSAT” test, such as the “SAT” test for mathematics and the “TOEFL” test. ) for the English language subject, and other requirements related to admission.

In light of this, the Ministry of Education updated the requirements for the service of equivalency of certificates for private school students, after canceling the “Emsat” test for 12th grade students in accordance with several requirements, including requesting an academic certificate for the last three years of study, and compulsory studying the Arabic language for students of Arab nationalities for the last three years of study. It is also mandatory to study Islamic studies for the last three years for Muslim students in private schools, in line with the state’s trends in strengthening the status of the Arabic language and consolidating tolerant religious values, stressing the need for private school students to review the equivalency requirements in line with their respective curricula.

The Ministries of Education and Higher Education and Scientific Research confirmed that the step came to meet the aspirations of leadership and society regarding the education sector, and the importance of its role in developing a positive system that turns challenges into opportunities and opens the way for students to acquire the skills and abilities that will enable them to contribute to building the nation’s future and prosperity.

• Canceling the test will not affect the equivalency requirements for the curricula of private schools except those implementing the American curriculum.
