Chevrolet Equinox EV recalled in UAE over pedestrian alert and eCall bug

Chevrolet Equinox EV recall in UAE covers 95 vehicles across two dealer-led campaigns

Chevrolet Equinox EV recall in the UAE affects 95 vehicles across two campaigns; Al Kindi and Bin Hamouda will repair affected 2025–2026 models free of charge.

The Chevrolet Equinox EV recall in the UAE covers two separate campaigns affecting a total of 95 units of the electric SUV, dealers confirmed on Saturday. The first campaign targets a potential calibration fault in the pedestrian alert system in certain 2025 and 2026 models, while a second campaign addresses a communications programming error in some 2025 vehicles.

Local dealers announce two coordinated recall campaigns

Al Kindi Automobiles and Bin Hamouda Automobiles, the official Chevrolet dealers in the UAE, are executing the recall campaigns for Equinox EVs produced in Mexico. The dealers said service centres under both groups will perform the necessary inspections and software updates at no cost to owners.

Dealers reported that the two campaigns are separate in scope and technical cause, but will be managed concurrently to minimise disruption for affected customers. Service appointments and repair work will be carried out at authorised centres across the country.

First campaign: pedestrian alert calibration concern

The first recall covers certain 2025 and 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EVs and involves a possible miscalibration of the pedestrian alert system. According to the recall notice, the system may not produce the required external sound level when the vehicle moves at speeds between zero and 10 kilometres per hour.

A reduced external sound level could lessen the effectiveness of audible warnings intended to alert pedestrians, particularly in low-speed urban settings and near parking areas. Dealers estimate that 78 vehicles nationwide are included in this initial campaign.

Second campaign: eCall communication programming fault

The second recall applies to a subset of 2025 Equinox EVs and concerns a programming error in the vehicle’s communications unit. The fault may cause automatic eCall transmissions to include data segments with incorrect length, which could hinder emergency responders’ ability to process crash notifications.

This campaign is expected to affect 17 vehicles in the UAE, according to the dealer statements. Service teams will reprogram the communications unit to ensure that eCall messages comply with required formatting and transmission standards.

Scope, production origin and model years involved

Both recalls are limited to Equinox EVs manufactured in Mexico and are restricted to specific 2025 and 2026 model-year vehicles. Combined, the two campaigns encompass 95 units across the UAE, reflecting a narrow population relative to the total Equinox EV fleet in the market.

Dealers emphasised that the actions are preventive and targeted, and they urged owners of covered vehicles to contact their authorised service centres to arrange inspections or updates. No recall-related charges will be levied on vehicle owners.

Repairs, timelines and owner guidance

Al Kindi and Bin Hamouda service centres will carry out the corrective work, which dealers say comprises software recalibration and reprogramming tasks. The dealers did not provide a public timetable for completion but indicated that affected vehicles will be fixed as quickly as possible when presented for service.

Owners who suspect their Equinox EV may be included in the recall should contact their dealer directly for confirmation and to schedule an appointment. Dealers also advised motorists to follow all safety guidance and to report any unusual system behaviour to authorised technicians.

Safety implications and regulatory context

The pedestrian alert system and the eCall emergency function are safety features designed to protect pedestrians and accelerate emergency response after collisions. Malfunctions in either system can reduce the effectiveness of those safeguards, particularly in urban and high-density pedestrian environments common in UAE cities.

Regulatory frameworks in the UAE require manufacturers and dealers to notify owners and rectify safety-related defects, and the dealer-led campaigns reflect that obligation. Authorities typically monitor recall actions to ensure compliance and public safety.

Owners of affected Chevrolet Equinox EVs are encouraged to contact Al Kindi Automobiles or Bin Hamouda Automobiles for verification and to arrange free service. Prompt action will restore the intended operation of the pedestrian alert and eCall systems and help maintain safety for drivers and pedestrians alike.
