Communications subscriptions in the country increased by 1.341 million subscriptions during the year

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority and the Digital Government revealed that the number of communication subscriptions, including mobile phones, the Internet and landlines, reached 27 million, 335 thousand and 263 subscriptions by the end of last May, for the first time in its history.

She explained that there is an unprecedented increase estimated at 1.341 million subscriptions to communication means within one year, as a result of the significant increase in mobile phone and internet subscriptions, supported by population growth, rising standard of living, business prosperity and the influx of visitors and tourists to the country.

Recent statistics issued by the Authority yesterday showed that the number of mobile phone subscriptions rose to 21 million, 397 thousand, and 750 subscriptions by the end of last May, compared to 20 million, 318 thousand, and 963 subscriptions in May 2023, an increase of 1 million, 78 thousand, and 787 subscriptions within one year.

According to the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, the number of prepaid line subscriptions by the end of last May reached 16 million, 532 thousand, and 618 subscriptions, while postpaid subscriptions accounted for the rest of the subscriptions.

The number of mobile phone subscriptions reached 229.1 subscriptions per 100 people at the end of last May, the highest rate in eight years, as the rate of mobile phone subscriptions per 100 people in the UAE is one of the highest in the world.

The number of broadband Internet subscriptions reached four million, 12 thousand, and 674 subscriptions by the end of May 2024, compared to three million, 717 thousand, and 32 subscriptions by the end of May 2023, an increase of 295 thousand, 642 subscriptions.

The number of broadband subscriptions per 100 people reached 43 subscriptions by the end of May 2024, reaching an all-time high, compared to 40.2 subscriptions by the end of May 2023.

Telephone line subscriptions reached zero after the two operators gradually stopped telephone line subscriptions over the past years.

At the same time, fixed-line telephone subscriptions reached 1,924,839 subscriptions by the end of last May, compared to 1,957,912 subscriptions by the end of May 2023, a decrease of 33,073 subscriptions.

Thus, there will be an increase in communication subscriptions estimated at 1,341,356 subscriptions within one year, as communication subscriptions reached 25,993,907 subscriptions by the end of May 2023.
