Yesterday, the Dubai Criminal Court ruled the death penalty for the defendant, Hamad Saud, and life imprisonment for his “accomplice” (Al-Anoud), on charges of killing the child (Wadima) and torturing her sister (Mira).

In the session it held under the chairmanship of Judge Maher Salama, and with the two judges, Abdul Latif Al Olama and Ahmed Shiha as members, the court acquitted the defendants of the charge of concealing the body of the child (Wadima – eight years old), who was found buried in a desert area between the emirates of Dubai and Sharjah, and it was found that her death resulted from The torture that the two defendants practiced against her and her sister, (Mira – seven years old).

The courtroom was crowded with attendees, and the defendant (Al-Anoud) was seen hugging her child and crying after the ruling was issued. She was taken by policewomen out of the court, while the defendant (Hamad) did not attend the session.

The sentencing session was attended by the mother of the two girls, who told Emarat Al-Youm that she was satisfied with the issuance of the “deterrent ruling” and hoped that the death sentence would be carried out as retribution for her child as soon as possible.

It is noteworthy that the Public Prosecution, in the order referring the case last July to the court, demanded the death penalty against the accused, and charged them with three charges related to depriving the freedom of the victims (Wadeema) and (Mira), and depriving them of their freedom illegally, and this was accompanied by the use of… Force, threats, and acts of physical and psychological torture for a period of approximately six months, since the victims were two females and minors, by detaining them and depriving them of their freedom, which led to the death of The first victim.

The prosecution said that the defendants used various types of brutal beatings and torture with irons, in addition to using cigarettes to burn the victims in various parts of their bodies, pouring boiling water on them, shocking them with electricity, beating them with a stick, and an electric wire, and locking them in the apartment’s bathroom and the wardrobe and closing them tightly. He left them like this for hours without water or food.

The Council of Ministers recently approved the Child Rights Law and named it “Wadeema” under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, after revealing the crime that shook Emirati society.

It is noteworthy that the “Wadima Law” punishes anyone who causes harm to any child, and is a party to exposing him to neglect, homelessness, and deprivation of rights, even if he is the closest person to him. The law also punishes those in a number of professions who will be obligated to report any child being exposed to violence or neglect, if they know about it, including doctors.

According to what was stated in the reasons for the ruling recorded by the court, the defendant (Hamad) reported during the investigations that after a period of beating and torturing his two daughters, he began to notice that they stopped crying and instead laughed, which provoked him and made him think that they were possessed by jinn.

He explained, in his confessions before the judicial body, that when he returned at dawn, 3 hours after he had detained his child (Wadeema) in the bathroom after a round of beating and torture he had inflicted on her, he saw her trembling until she died.

In the same context, Al-Anoud said that on the night of Wadima’s death, her father, Hamad, began beating her with a plastic cable, while he was drunk as usual and taking doses of narcotic pills. This was at one-thirty in the morning, and he did not stop beating her for a long time, but rather detained her. In the bathroom, he closed the door on her and went to sleep.

The partner added in her confessions that the father woke up from his sleep at five in the morning and went to the bathroom to see the victim child (Wadima) lying on the ground with foam coming out of her mouth, indicating that he summoned her immediately, and she saw (Wadima) dead.

She continued that he wrapped Wadima in a white sheet and sprayed her with perfume and carried her while she was with him. They got out and put her in the car, which he then disposed of and sold, adding that they put the child’s body in the back seat and headed to the farthest area.

She indicated that they left the other victim (Mira) in the apartment alone after they locked the door on her.

She added, “When the sun rose, we discovered that we were in the Al-Badayer area in the Emirate of Sharjah, inside the sand dunes, and when the car got stuck in the sand, (Hamad) had to get down to hide the body so that no passer-by would see it. There, the girl’s father dug a grave for the victim less than a meter deep and buried her,” she pointed out. He was not able to get out of the sand dunes until noon when someone helped him get his car out.
