Dubai Electricity strengthens cooperation with the Netherlands in energy, water and sustainability projects


The Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, received the Consul General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Dr. Karl Richter, in a visit aimed at closely examining the applied best practices and global projects and initiatives of the Authority.

Al Tayer stressed the Authority’s keenness to enhance close cooperation and strategic partnerships with Dutch companies in the public and private sectors, with a focus on transferring the Authority’s best practices and standards in the fields of energy, water and sustainability.

He reviewed the Authority’s initiatives that are consistent with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God protect him. He also highlighted the Authority’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. Al Tayer also reviewed the Authority’s initiatives to diversify clean energy sources, including Integrating several renewable technologies, such as solar PV, concentrated solar energy, and stored hydropower into the Hatta Hydropower Station.

He pointed out that the Authority launched the green hydrogen project at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, and it is the first project of its kind in the Middle East and North Africa region to produce green hydrogen using solar energy, which supports the transition towards a carbon-free economy, enhances green mobility and reduces carbon emissions. .

He talked about the Authority’s adoption of the technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and digitization, enhancing world-leading levels of infrastructure, with the highest levels of reliability, efficiency and availability, accelerating investments in disruptive technologies, and the Authority recording world records in key performance indicators in the energy and water sectors, where the Authority leads the position. First in the world in more than 12 key performance indicators in its field of work.

He stated that the Authority outperformed a group of electricity companies in the European Union and the United States of America in various global competitiveness indicators, and succeeded in reducing the rate of power outages per subscriber in Dubai to only 1.06 minutes in 2023, which is the lowest rate recorded in the world.
