Dubai Financial Market surged 2.95% to close at 5,898.42 on May 6, 2026, lifting market capitalisation to AED 971.68bn as six leading stocks captured the bulk of trading.

The Dubai Financial Market rose sharply in Thursday trading, propelled by broad gains across industry, real estate and banking stocks. Sector advances were widespread, reflecting renewed investor appetite that sent the index up 169.35 points to 5,898.42 on May 6, 2026. Market participants noted heavy concentration of flows into a handful of large-cap names that accounted for more than two-thirds of overall turnover.

Dubai Financial Market Climbs 2.95% on May 6, 2026

The main index closed the session up 2.95%, supported by a mix of cyclical and defensive sectors. Industrial shares led the rally with a 5.2% gain, while real estate stocks rose 4.36% and bank stocks added 1.85%.

Consumer discretionary and staples both registered increases of about 2.6%, and utilities, telecoms and other sectors posted more modest advances. The broad-based nature of the move helped underpin confidence across market segments.

Market Capitalisation Rises by AED 25.13 Billion

Dubai’s listed equity market value climbed to AED 971.68 billion at the end of the session, from AED 946.55 billion the previous trading day. The rise represented roughly AED 25.13 billion in additional market capitalisation in a single session.

Total turnover on the exchange exceeded AED 1.06 billion, reflecting strong buying interest and elevated trading activity. Volume metrics showed nearly 421.68 million shares changing hands across 23,799 transactions, underscoring the depth of market engagement.

Top Six Stocks Accounted for 69% of Trading Liquidity

Six large-cap names dominated liquidity, together representing more than 69% of total value traded on the Dubai bourse. The combined trading value of these stocks reached about AED 741.59 million of the market’s AED 1.06 billion turnover.

Emaar Properties led liquidity with AED 454.67 million in trades and closed up 4.34% at AED 12.48 per share. Emaar Development followed with AED 78.34 million in turnover, rising 4.55% to AED 15.16. Emirates NBD recorded AED 53.16 million in trades and finished at AED 29.72, up 3.48%.

Air Arabia, Talabat and Dubai Islamic Bank Show Strong Demand

Air Arabia featured prominently with AED 52.98 million in trading value and a 6.18% advance, reflecting renewed interest in aviation-related equities. Talabat logged AED 51.52 million in turnover and rose 2.96%, while Dubai Islamic Bank saw AED 50.89 million traded and closed at AED 7.41, gaining 2.91%.

Analysts said the concentration of liquidity in a small group of heavyweight stocks helped lift the broader index, as gains in these names translated into significant market-capitalisation effects.

Foreign Investors Turn Net Buyers

Foreign investors — including Arab, GCC and other non-resident buyers — were net purchasers on the Dubai exchange, registering net inflows of approximately AED 47.82 million on the day. Their purchases totaled about AED 501.99 million against AED 454.17 million in sales.

Market participants interpreted the net buying as an encouraging signal after a period of selective foreign engagement, with overseas investors focusing on blue-chip names and companies with clear earnings visibility.

Abu Dhabi Exchange Advances as Market Capitalisation Nears AED 2.88 Trillion

Across the UAE, the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange also closed higher on May 6, 2026, with its index up 0.855% or 83.71 points to end at 9,874.76. ADX’s aggregate market capitalisation rose to roughly AED 2.875 trillion from AED 2.843 trillion the prior session, adding about AED 31.6 billion.

Liquidity on Abu Dhabi’s market surpassed AED 2.01 billion, with around 559.4 million shares traded through 41,509 transactions. Observers noted steady participation in ADX stocks, contributing to the Gulf’s broader equity rally.

Markets entered the close with a cautiously optimistic tone, bolstered by concentrated buying in large-cap names and steady foreign inflows. Equity strategists will be watching whether the concentration of liquidity in a few stocks broadens into more sectors in the coming sessions.
