Yesterday, the Dubai International Financial Center offered a paper consulting a new amendment paper to several laws, indicating that the period of public consultations is 30 days, ending on March 26, 2025.
The center stated, in a statement yesterday, that the proposed amendments aim to provide more clarity and ensure the consistency of the center’s laws with the best practices followed internationally.
He stated that the proposed amendments to the Data Protection Law provides a greater level of protection for data, while clarifying litigation rights to data owners at the Dubai International Financial Center.
The center proposed the application of a set of amendments to the Data Protection Law, with the aim of clarifying the scope of its application, especially the scope of its application outside the regional borders, in a way that ensures that data owners in the Dubai International Financial Center receive full protection under the law, regardless of where their data is processed.
The amendments also aim to update Article 28 regarding the exchange of data, to find a basis that authorizes the Commissioner to reassess the reference suitability, to determine the suitability of the “third” countries, in terms of having adequate protection level to receive personal data, and to ensure the protection of personal data that government authorities deal with, while providing appropriate compensation to data owners.
The amendments also aim to add a clause regarding the right to litigate, through the courts of the Dubai International Financial Center, while enhancing the rights and compensation granted to data owners whose data has been processed in violation of the provisions of the Data Protection Law.
The Dubai International Financial Center also proposed a set of amendments to the Security Law, the bankruptcy law, and the employment law, in order to ensure its clarity more.
