Dubai International Airport handles 291,000 expected passengers today


Dubai International Airport, the world’s largest international air transport hub, is expected to handle 291,000 passengers on Sunday, making September 1 the busiest day of the year as people return from summer vacations. The airport is expected to handle more than 12,100 passengers every hour throughout the day.

Dubai International Airport had previously stated that it is preparing to receive a total of 3.43 million passengers during the period between August 21 and September 2, 2024, with a daily traffic rate of 264,000 passengers, during the return season from the summer vacations, noting that the period between August 31 and September 1 will witness heavy travel movement, as the airport is expected to receive more than half a million passengers during these two days.

Dubai International Airport maintained its position as the world’s largest airport by international passenger numbers for the tenth consecutive year in 2023, receiving 44.9 million passengers during the first half of 2024, an 8% increase compared to the same period last year. Dubai International Airport connects to 269 destinations in 106 countries via 101 international airlines, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a leading global hub for business and logistics.

The airport has the capacity to accommodate 100 million passengers annually, and this capacity is expected to grow to more than 120 million passengers with the improvement of technological services and the development of facilities.

Dubai International Airport has a record-breaking track record, ranking first in the world in terms of international passenger numbers for the tenth consecutive year, and is the world’s leading airport for wide-body aircraft flights, as well as being the largest airport for flights of the giant Airbus A380.

Dubai International is also the world’s largest airport in terms of the number of seats scheduled for international flights, and has the world’s only terminal dedicated to the Airbus A380, in addition to being the headquarters of the world’s largest international carrier, Emirates Airlines.
