Dubai Taxi launches the “Break Plus” system in taxis to reduce rear collisions


The Dubai Taxi Corporation of the Roads and Transport Authority has started operating the “Break Plus” system in the corporation’s taxis, which works to automatically turn on the rear quad lights of the taxi intermittently when the driver presses the brakes in cases of speed reduction and sudden stop, thus alerting drivers behind the taxi to reduce speed and leave a distance. Sufficient safety to avoid possible accidents resulting from a rear-end collision.

Executive Director of the Dubai Taxi Corporation, Dr. Yousef Mohammed Al Ali, said that the “Break Plus” system works to reduce the probability of a rear collision occurring by 50%, so that most rear collision accidents can be avoided if the driver has only one second of advance warning, and the driver can notice the stop. Al Ali explained that an agreement had been reached with Gulf Auto Safety Trading LLC to install the system in 400 taxi vehicles for a period of six months as a trial, so that the system would later be distributed to the Dubai Taxi Corporation’s fleet of vehicles.
