Emirates Announces Receipt of 23 A350-900s and Launches First Converted 777-ER Freighter

Emirates A350 deliveries reach 23 as carrier upgrades cabins and adds converted 777 freighter

Emirates A350 deliveries reach 23 aircraft since November 2024 as the carrier accelerates cabin upgrades, rolls out Starlink and introduces a converted Boeing 777 freighter under a $5bn program.

A350 deliveries reach 23 aircraft

Emirates has taken delivery of 23 Airbus A350-900 jets since it began receiving the type in November 2024, the airline said. Adel Al Redha, the carrier’s vice president and chief operating officer, confirmed the figure and said delivery pacing has matched the airline’s schedule, with up to three aircraft arriving in some months.

The arrivals form part of a 65-aircraft A350 order that Emirates is using to expand capacity and modernize its long haul fleet. As of June 25, 2026, the A350 deliveries are enabling the airline to deploy newer widebodies across its network and to introduce the latest cabin products to more routes.

Converted 777-ER enters freighter service

Emirates has brought its first converted Boeing 777-ER into service as a freighter following conversion from a passenger configuration. The move reflects a flexible fleet approach that allows the airline to repurpose existing assets to meet rising global demand for air cargo.

The converted 777-ER will bolster Emirates SkyCargo capacity while complementing dedicated freighter fleets worldwide. Al Redha described the conversion as an example of operational agility that helps the carrier capitalise on shifting cargo market dynamics.

$5bn cabin overhaul progresses with 99 upgrades complete

The airline is executing a major cabin refurbishment programme valued at roughly $5 billion, described by Emirates as the largest of its kind in the industry. To date, 99 aircraft have been updated out of a targeted 215, with the upgrades spanning both Airbus A380s and Boeing 777s.

Work completed so far includes modern cabin layouts, new premium economy style seats in economy cabins, and next generation in flight entertainment systems. Specifically, 46 A380s and 53 Boeing 777s have received updates within the programme, aimed at elevating passenger comfort and maintaining the carrier’s product competitiveness.

Starlink rollout on Boeing 777 and A380 timelines

Emirates has already equipped 33 Boeing 777s and three A380s with Starlink connectivity as part of a phased installation programme. The airline is working to complete Starlink retrofits across its entire Boeing fleet by March 2027 and to finish the A380 installations by July 2027.

The phased approach allows Emirates to introduce high speed satellite connectivity progressively while managing aircraft downtime and maintenance schedules. Al Redha said the connectivity upgrades will support both passenger services and operational capabilities, improving the inflight experience and enabling new digital services.

Product and network expansion with new cabins

The influx of A350 aircraft and the refurbishment programme are tied directly to Emirates’ strategy of expanding its global network while offering updated cabin products. The airline has emphasised that the new A350s and refreshed aircraft will be used to open routes and to replace older aircraft on existing services.

Key product enhancements include a premium economy style offering within economy cabins, redesigned business class elements, and broader deployment of next generation inflight entertainment. These changes are intended to give customers more opportunities to experience Emirates’ latest products across both business and premium economy segments.

Operational pacing and delivery outlook through 2027

Emirates reported that its A350 delivery schedule has proceeded according to plan, with periodic months seeing up to three aircraft delivered. The carrier did not provide a complete month by month projection but stressed that the overall cadence supports fleet renewal and network expansion priorities.

Separately, the refurbishment programme’s timetable means passengers will progressively encounter updated cabins on an expanding share of routes through 2027. Emirates has framed these investments as central to maintaining its position in global aviation and to meeting evolving passenger expectations for comfort and connectivity.

Emirates says the combination of new A350 arrivals, large scale cabin upgrades and phased connectivity rollouts will allow it to broaden services and refine product offerings while leveraging converted aircraft to meet cargo demand. The carrier’s staged approach to deliveries and modifications is intended to balance growth, service continuity and the need to keep pace with shifting market conditions.
