Emirates NBD launches real-time cross-border payments on Partior blockchain

Emirates NBD has gone live with real-time cross-border payments on the Partior blockchain, enabling immediate USD settlement for corporate clients via a blockchain-based multi-currency clearing and settlement network.

Emirates NBD announced that the new service marks the bank as the first financial institution in the region to enable real-time cross-border payments using the Partior blockchain infrastructure. The rollout represents the first phase of a broader plan to extend the service to additional currencies, settlement channels and participating banks as the Partior network expands.

Emirates NBD goes live on Partior blockchain

The bank said its deployment on the Partior blockchain enables direct execution of cross-border payment flows on a distributed ledger, moving beyond proof-of-concept and partnership stages to live production. The initial implementation supports immediate USD settlement, with transactions settled in real time for the bank’s corporate and institutional clients.

Emirates NBD framed the move as an operational step to deliver faster, more reliable payment rails for treasury clients, saying the live service demonstrates the ability to deploy secure, scalable payment solutions across international counterparties. The bank added that the platform’s distributed ledger foundation is designed to reduce reconciliation time and lower settlement risk.

USD settlements processed via JPMorgan on live network

As part of the launch, USD transactions are being settled through JPMorgan, which is acting as the settlement bank and custodian for beneficiary accounts. Emirates NBD confirmed that beneficiaries’ accounts will remain maintained with JPMorgan, while settlement finality is achieved on the Partior infrastructure in real time.

This arrangement allows corporates to receive funds with immediate certainty while preserving established custody and correspondent banking relationships. The bank emphasized that the integration with JPMorgan’s settlement capability helps bridge existing treasury operations with the new blockchain-based clearing layer.

Expansion roadmap to more currencies and participants

Emirates NBD said the current launch is the first stage of a phased expansion that will add more currencies, settlement corridors and partner banks over time. The bank expects the Partior network to accommodate additional rails and participants as it matures, broadening the number of corridors available for instant settlement.

Officials indicated the roll-out will be incremental and closely aligned with network adoption and regulatory approvals in relevant markets. The bank also signalled that it will continue to assess merchant and corporate demand as it prioritises new currency pairs and settlement channels.

Treasury efficiencies for corporate and institutional clients

Bank executives highlighted that real-time settlement reduces intraday liquidity uncertainty and shortens the treasury cycle for corporate clients. Faster finality on USD flows is expected to improve cash visibility and decrease the need for precautionary liquidity buffers held across multiple accounts.

Emirates NBD’s Group Head of Banking Transactions, Anith Daniel, said moving from partnership to direct execution on Partior enables quicker dollar settlements for JPMorgan beneficiaries and enhances overall treasury efficiency for the bank’s clients. The bank added that the solution is built to scale while preserving security and operational controls required by institutional users.

Platform perspective from Partior and strategic implications

Partior’s leadership described the collaboration as combining Emirates NBD’s regional franchise with a blockchain-native clearing and settlement backbone to support global payments more efficiently. Partior’s CEO, Humphrey Valenbrider, said the platform aims to deliver a more efficient alternative to traditional correspondent banking for certain settlement flows.

Industry observers note that a regional bank adopting Partior for live USD settlements could accelerate broader interest in blockchain-enabled settlement rails across the Gulf. The move is likely to prompt other banks to evaluate similar integrations, particularly where speed of settlement and treasury optimisation are competitive differentiators.

The launch signals a tactical shift toward distributed-ledger infrastructure for certain cross-border corridors and underlines the UAE banking sector’s appetite for payments innovation. As the Partior network expands its currency coverage and membership, the practical impact on liquidity management and correspondent relationships will be an area to watch.
