“Expo City Dubai” measures carbon emissions

“Expo City Dubai” and the Royal Institution of Surveyors have concluded a strategic cooperation agreement, with the aim of enhancing cooperation to measure emissions and decarbonization, by adopting the “WLCA” standard, which is an approach to quantifying carbon emissions. With this step, Expo City Dubai becomes the first developer in the UAE to adopt the framework of the Royal Institute of Surveyors.

The WLCA standard enables consistent and accurate measurement of carbon in the built environment by supporting comprehensive and consistent decision-making, while the collaboration will promote a more sustainable built environment sector across the UAE.

A statement issued yesterday stated that the CEO of Real Estate Development and Delivery at Expo City Dubai, Engineer Ahmed Al Khatib, and the Executive Director of the Middle East and Africa Region at the Royal Institute of Surveyors, Belinda Howell, signed the cooperation agreement, in the presence of representatives from the Emirates Green Building Council.

This strategic cooperation comes after the announcement of the new master plan for Expo City Dubai, which will witness development into a global center for companies, investors, residents and visitors who share its vision for a more interconnected and sustainable future. The city will include, upon completion of its planned stages, about 35,000 residents and 40,000 employees. , within an area of 3.5 square kilometers. Al-Khatib said: “Expo City plays a pivotal role in Dubai’s long-term prosperity, and we have committed to meeting this need responsibly through a decarbonization roadmap and sustainability initiatives that ensure we work with our environment, not against it.”

For her part, President of the Royal Institute of Surveyors, Tina Bailet, said, “The agreement is an indication of the growing cooperation between the Royal Institute of Surveyors, as a global professional body, and (Expo City Dubai), and together we look forward to serving as a beacon of advanced sustainability practices and technologies in the built environment.”

It is noteworthy that “Dubai Expo City” is one of the five main centers in the Dubai Urban Plan, and plays an essential role in achieving Dubai’s “D33” economic agenda, which seeks to double the size of the emirate’s economy by 2033.
