GCC condemns Iran’s false accusations against UAE, urges respect for sovereignty and regional stability
Gulf Cooperation Council secretary-general denounces Tehran’s claims as misleading, affirms GCC unity with the UAE to protect security and sovereignty.
The Gulf Cooperation Council condemns Iran’s false accusations against the UAE, the bloc’s secretary-general said in a forceful response to a recent statement from Tehran. Jasem Muhammad Al-Budaiwi described the Iranian claims as baseless and part of a broader pattern of escalation and provocation targeting Gulf states. The statement reiterated the GCC’s support for the UAE and emphasised that attacks on Emirati territory and efforts to distort facts will not go unanswered.
GCC Secretary-General’s Strong Condemnation
Jasem Muhammad Al-Budaiwi publicly rejected the assertions contained in the Iranian foreign ministry statement and characterised them as unfounded and unacceptable. He framed the remarks as a continuation of what the GCC views as an aggressive and provocative posture by Iran toward the region. The secretary-general’s language underlined the severity with which the council regards both the substance of the claims and the broader behaviour they reflect.
Tehran Statement Described as Misleading by Gulf Body
According to the GCC leadership, the Iranian communiqué included allegations that the council says misrepresent realities on the ground and aim to shift responsibility away from Tehran’s actions. The secretary-general’s remarks accused the statement of deliberate attempts to obfuscate facts and inflame tensions. The Gulf body called on international actors to note the discrepancy between the Iranian narrative and the position of the UAE and its partners.
Allegations of Attacks and Attempts to Distort Facts
Al-Budaiwi referenced what he described as attacks that targeted Emirati territory, asserting that Iran had not only engaged in hostile operations but also pursued a campaign to tarnish facts thereafter. The GCC portrayed those actions as violations of established international norms and as contributing to regional insecurity. While the secretary-general did not expand on operational details in his public remarks, he emphasised the seriousness of the alleged breaches against UAE sovereignty.
GCC Solidarity with the UAE Across Member States
The secretary-general said the Gulf states stand united behind the UAE, supporting any measures it takes to defend its security and sovereignty. He stressed that the security of the UAE is inseparable from that of the wider GCC membership and described coordinated backing as essential for regional stability. The statement conveyed a clear political message of collective resolve and mutual defence among the council’s members.
Calls for Respecting International Law and Diplomatic Norms
The GCC urged respect for international law and diplomatic conventions, framing Iran’s conduct as a breach of these principles. The secretary-general’s remarks called for de-escalation and adherence to the norms that govern state-to-state relations. By positioning the dispute within a legal and normative context, the council signalled its intention to enlist international opinion and mechanisms in response to what it sees as Iranian transgressions.
Regional Security Risks and Potential Responses
The GCC warned that persistent antagonistic behaviour increases the risk of wider instability across the Gulf and beyond, and underscored the need for measured, collective responses. Member states have emphasised the importance of coordination on security, intelligence-sharing, and diplomatic outreach to mitigate further escalation. While the council did not announce specific new measures in the statement, its emphasis on unity and support for the UAE suggests continued political and security consultations among members.
The GCC secretary-general’s assertion that Tehran’s statement was designed to inflame tensions reflects long-standing regional disagreements and highlights the challenge of preventing rhetoric from escalating into broader confrontation. The council’s reaffirmation of solidarity with the UAE aims to strengthen deterrence and to signal to partners and international audiences that the Gulf states will act collectively to safeguard their sovereignty and stability.
