The citizen, Saif Muhammad Al-Dhafiri (56 years old), a resident of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, volunteered to collect waste and waste left by hikers in the Al-Kharan area.

Al-Dhufairi spent six hours cleaning the area to preserve the environment, and a video clip spread on social media of a citizen filming Al-Dhufairi after collecting large quantities of waste.

Al-Dhafiri told Emirates Al-Youm: “I was walking last Sunday in the Al-Kharan area in Ras Al-Khaimah, and I was surprised by the amount of waste and food waste left by hikers in the place, which aroused my dissatisfaction with their lack of interest in public hygiene and leaving their waste in the natural area.”

He continued: “I went home and brought with me several large bags designed to collect waste, and I asked one of the workers in my house to go with me to the Al-Kharan area to collect waste and clean the place.”

He pointed out that he “collected more than 20 large bags of waste, and brought with him a straw to load the bags of waste into his vehicle from the back and transport them to the landfill.”

Al-Dhafiri considered that “what he did was a simple act of expression of love for the country, and came out of his frustration with some visitors to natural areas not paying attention to cleanliness.”

He explained that “since his retirement from work, he has begun carrying out volunteer work, including cleaning up wild areas.”
