Participants in a symposium organized by the General Command of the Armed Forces yesterday, entitled “National Service and Enhancing Identity,” pointed out that national service will consolidate the importance of physical and health fitness as one of the components of state service, which will contribute to reducing the current large rates of obesity and other health problems and other diseases such as diabetes. .

The head of the National and Reserve Service Authority, Major General Pilot Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, confirmed in his paper entitled “National Service is an Assignment, Honor and Responsibility” that the state places hopes on the National Service Project and the effective role it will play in establishing the values ​​of loyalty, belonging and sacrifice in the hearts of young people. He stressed that “this law achieves national unity in life and destiny in the highest sense of solidarity and positive participation. He said, “Today we are in dire need of reviving the concepts of national identity and its established constants so that we can safely pass through these stormy conditions that are blowing in our Arab region. Our national identity is our strongest weapon to overcome everything that the nation is spared from the effects and consequences of what many Arab countries are witnessing,” continuing. “Our political cohesion is one of the most prominent concepts of national identity. Let us all line up in solidarity and solidarity behind our wise leadership and our national government in all its decisions and policies because it is the most capable of expressing… About the general national conscience and the common national interest, and there is no doubt that our national loyalty, in which we give priority to the nation’s supreme interest over every personal or personal interest, has been embodied in the Compulsory National Service Law, which represents an important tributary to strengthening national loyalty. He stressed that political and social cohesion and national loyalty are the most important concepts of national identity, which is considered an impenetrable dam to ward off every evil or undesirable effect resulting from the unrest spreading in the Arab world.

The First Vice President of the Federal National Council and Director General of the Abu Dhabi Education Council, Dr. Amal Al Qubaisi, said in a paper entitled “Social, Cultural and Educational Impacts of the National Service Law,” that national service constitutes an enhanced tributary to the capacity and efficiency of the armed forces, which is embraced by the UAE Vision 2021 through the principle of “Union.” Strong and united by one destiny.

She added that nation-building includes developing a specific program to formulate national values ​​that clarify the most prominent aspects on which those values ​​are based, and the National Service Law confirms this goal, and building rapid response capabilities is one of the components of the state’s ability to sustain and withstand threats to its security, and national service contributes to controlling normal behavior among people. Most young people go through military training, and training on modern equipment in the armed forces contributes to creating a platform for linking advanced technology with daily life.

She pointed to the positive social, cultural and educational repercussions of the National Service Law, indicating that the existence of a specific program in which all the country’s youth, some of whom are girls, will participate will create a significant impact on society and on some prevailing practices, the most important of which can be identified in consolidating national unity, which is considered the basis of the country’s stability and development and is the foundation of The establishment of any modern state, and providing the opportunity for Emirati girls to participate in the honor of preparing to defend the homeland and bear the responsibility of defending it, will lead to strengthening the concepts of equal opportunities between the sexes approved by the laws in the country.

The National Service Law also contributes to deepening community ties at a time when many social relationships have become virtual due to the spread of social media, pointing out that the companionship of arms provides an appropriate opportunity to create relationships between different groups of society, where they will share ideas and ambitions and overcome difficulties.

Al Qubaisi pointed out that the National Service Law will establish the principle of public service as a societal value, in addition to spreading a culture of health, as in many countries, including the UAE, the issue of obesity among children and adolescents represents a major public health problem, and one of its causes is the lack of regular exercise, noting that it According to statistics issued by the Health Authority in Abu Dhabi, the rate of obesity among citizens is 36%, while a recent survey study that included 1,440 citizen students in government schools in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi revealed that 34% of citizen children and adolescents are either overweight or obese, and everyone’s performance of national service will contribute to consolidating the importance of physical and health fitness as one of the components of state service, and will contribute to a significant decrease in the current large rates of obesity, and other health problems and diseases such as diabetes.

She pointed out that the Abu Dhabi Education Council intends to organize a series of awareness programs for students, especially third-year students, in order to prepare them for national service, and will provide support programs, career guidance, and other required guidance to students before and after performing national service, continuing, “We will cooperate closely with the students and families.” And higher education institutions to ensure that students who wish to continue their higher education after performing national service are not disrupted.”
