The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail Al Mazrouei, said that the electric car sector in the Emirates is witnessing rapid growth, which necessitated the provision of very fast chargers that enable the vehicle to travel a distance of 400 kilometers on a single charge, noting that these chargers are located in fuel filling stations.
He added that, in addition to very fast chargers, there are other fast chargers available in commercial centers and buildings, pointing out that private sector companies also provide such services alongside companies and government agencies within the open market policy.
Al Mazrouei stated, in press statements on the sidelines of the “Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week,” which concluded its activities yesterday, that the UAE is one of the first countries in the world to invest in hydrogen as a source of clean energy, noting that the country has several announced projects within the framework of the shift towards an energy mix that contributes It contains 50% clean energy.
He stated that the cost of producing green hydrogen worldwide has witnessed a decline of between 40% and 50%, explaining that the price of producing a kilo of hydrogen is about six or seven dollars currently, compared to 10 or 11 dollars several years ago.
He explained that cost, sustainability, and security of supply are all factors that determine the price of electricity around the world, so companies investing in this vital sector are trying to expand the network and diversify sources due to the increasing demand for electricity.
Al Mazrouei pointed out that fears of increasing global demand for electricity come from the spread of large data centers and the uses of artificial intelligence due to these sectors consuming a lot of energy, in addition to the current uses of various economic and commercial sectors, housing, and others.
He said that there are expectations that the global demand for electricity will double because of this, so the UAE’s announcement of its new project to generate electricity from solar energy at a cost of six cents per kilowatt gives hope to many countries in the world that do not have electricity, gas, or oil, pointing out that The UAE has been working for some time on efficient use and reducing waste, and always seeks not to increase prices for consumers in light of the growing demand.
He stressed that the price of electricity in the UAE is low compared to many countries, which record four or five times the price in force in the country.
