Sharjah Private Schools achieve advanced positions in the “TIMSS” test

Sharjah Private Schools achieved outstanding results in the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) test, in its 2023 session, and achieved positive ranks that reflect their superiority at the national and regional levels. These results came as part of an international report by the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) at the Announcement Forum. The results, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the Arab Education Bureau for the Gulf States, were held at the Museum of the Future in Dubai.

The TIMSS study is one of the prestigious international initiatives that evaluates students’ performance in mathematics and science, in which many countries participate with the aim of comparing the level of education globally and exploring ways to develop its outcomes.

The study sample in Sharjah private schools included 5,567 male and female students in the fourth grade, representing 116 schools, and 4,630 male and female students in the eighth grade, representing 108 schools, from all curricula that teach Arabic or English.

The results showed remarkable progress for Sharjah schools, as they were ranked 29th globally in mathematics, and 28th globally in science for the fourth grade, out of 72 educational systems, and recorded an honorable achievement in the eighth grade, where they achieved 10th place globally in mathematics, and 13th globally in science.

The results showed that 51 private schools in the Emirate of Sharjah obtained a rate higher than the international average for fourth grade in mathematics, and 38 schools were higher than the international average in science. As for eighth grade results, 35 schools achieved higher than the international average for both mathematics. And science.

The study confirmed that four Sharjah private schools received an “Advanced International Standard” rating in science and mathematics for the fourth grade, 20 schools received a “High International Standard” rating in fourth-grade mathematics, and 64 schools received an “Average International Standard” rating in the subject. Science for the fourth grade, and 54 schools with mathematics for the eighth grade.

The head of the Sharjah Private Education Authority, Dr. Muhaddith Yahya Al Hashemi, expressed her pride in what Sharjah private schools have achieved, and congratulated the schools participating in the tests, and praised the sincere efforts made by the administrative and teaching bodies in private schools, in addition to the efforts of students and their families, and with the support of the Sharjah Private Education Authority, which contributed to this achievement.

In press statements yesterday, she considered what education has achieved in the emirate as a result of the continuous support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
