The “Aluminum Can Collection” campaign collected 13,988 kilograms of can waste

The Emirates Environment Working Group announced the success of the 28th session of the aluminum can collection campaign nationwide, as participants were able to collect 13,988 kilograms of cans, recording the highest amount collected in one day since the start of the campaign thanks to the wide response from the community and its commitment to environmental work.

The process contributed to mitigating 210 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions, saving 340 cubic meters of landfill space, and conserving 3.183 million British thermal units of energy.

Mrs. Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson of the Emirates Environment Working Group, pointed out that the campaign, which was held under the slogan “With the concept I can…the future will be in our hands,” aims to raise awareness of the importance of recycling aluminum cans and encourage various segments of society to adopt sustainable practices, noting that Recycling aluminum contributes to saving about 95% of the energy needed to produce new cans, which highlights the impact of these efforts on achieving sustainability.

Al Marashi explained that the campaign is in line with global sustainability goals and seeks to enhance environmental awareness in light of the urgent need to address the effects of climate change, stressing that recyclable containers provide a great opportunity to support the circular economy if they are optimally exploited, noting that the campaign contributed significantly to achieving 92.6 % of its goal for the year 2024, which is to collect 31,800 kilograms of aluminum cans.

The group also provided workshops and educational resources to highlight the importance of reducing waste and the role of recycling in building a sustainable future, praising the role of schools and institutions that participated in the campaign and contributed to promoting a culture of sustainability.
