Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Head of the Culture and Arts Authority in Dubai, Director General of the International Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Wipo, Darren Tang, was met within the activities of the 55th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The meeting focused on enhancing cooperation between the UAE and “WeBo” to develop the intellectual property system, and to support innovation and creativity as basic pillars to achieve sustainable growth.

Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum affirmed, during the meeting, the UAE’s commitment to developing an advanced framework for intellectual property, in line with the best global practices to support its ambitions in building a prosperous system for innovation and creativity.

Her Highness shed light on the leading achievements that the UAE has achieved in consolidating the culture of creativity and innovation across various sectors, which strengthened its position as a global center for talents, technology and culture.

Her Highness said: «Intellectual property is a basic pillar of supporting innovation, empowering creators, and promoting economic diversification, and the UAE is aware of the great importance of a strong intellectual royal system in building a sustainable and developed economy, and through our partnership with global institutions such as (Weibo), we are working to protect property rights Intellectual and promoting the growth of creative industries and innovation sectors.

Her Highness has reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to promoting intellectual property as a basic factor for achieving comprehensive development and global competitiveness. Her Highness continued: “Our partnership with (Weibo) reflects the firm commitment of the Emirates to create a supportive environment in which innovation and creativity are celebrated, and they protect and develop,” adding that: “We seek to build on our achievements and set new international standards for how to invest in intellectual property to serve societies and enhance economies.”

For his part, Tang praised the vision of the UAE and its pioneering approach in harnessing intellectual property as a tool to achieve economic and cultural growth.

We renewed the “Weibo” commitment to support the UAE in developing a comprehensive and multi -sectors national strategy for intellectual property, in line with its development ambitions. He stressed that this strategy will create a dynamic environment that encourages innovation and creativity, which contributes to achieving the comprehensive UAE development goals.

The meeting highlighted the fruitful partnership between the Emirates and “Weibo”, which contributed greatly to the development of the intellectual property system in the country.

Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum reviewed Darren Tang, ways to enhance this cooperation to face challenges and benefit from emerging opportunities, while ensuring the UAE’s leadership in global innovation in the field of intellectual property.

The two parties discussed the importance of enhancing cooperation between different sectors, increasing awareness of the importance of intellectual property rights, and implementing policies that support innovators, creators and business leaders. The role of education has also been emphasized, and capacity building in promoting a deeper understanding of intellectual property within the diverse Emirati society.
