Officials participating in the 15th session of the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) emphasized the UAE’s exceptional leadership in energy transition projects and initiatives, which contribute to achieving the global goal of tripling renewable energy productivity by 2030.
On the sidelines of the meetings, which began the day before yesterday in Abu Dhabi, as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2025, they said that the UAE is a leading country in the Middle East in terms of solar energy and photovoltaic energy projects, and has led huge projects that enhance its position as a regional and global center for renewable energy production.
The Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure for the Electricity, Water and Future Energy Sector, Engineer Ahmed Al Kaabi, confirmed during his participation in the high-level committee session on energy transformation paths in emerging economies, organized by the General Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), that “the UAE realized early on that “The importance of adopting clean energy to protect the planet and ensure the future of future generations, and that in this context the UAE has invested heavily in renewable energy projects, which enabled it to be the first country in the region to sign the Paris Agreement.” He stressed that the clean and renewable energy sector in the UAE is witnessing unprecedented growth.
Al Kaabi stated that the UAE recorded another achievement by being the first Arab country to use peaceful nuclear energy through the “Barakah” station, which meets 25% of electricity needs from a carbon-free source.
In turn, the CEO of the World Solar Energy Council, Sonia Dunlop, confirmed that the renewable energy projects that the UAE continues to launch, which enhance the renewable energy productivity portfolio not only at the country level, but for the entire Gulf, reflect the ambition of its leadership.
For his part, Jacob Lau Holst, CEO of the Global Wind Organization (GWO), which specializes in training and skills of technicians and the workforce in the renewable energy sector, expressed his aspiration to attract more skills and technicians to the global renewable energy sector from the youth of the Emirates and abroad, by introducing the organization’s work.
