The UAE supplied 38.2% of Japan’s oil imports in November


Japan’s oil imports from the UAE amounted to 27.16 million barrels, or 38.2% of total imports in November 2024, according to data from the Natural Resources and Energy Agency of the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

During the aforementioned month, Japan imported about 71.18 million barrels of oil, of which the share of Arab oil was 95.1%, or 67.72 million barrels, coming from three Arab countries, in addition to the Emirates, which are the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar, in addition to the neutral zone (on border between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia), according to the data, and Japan imported 31.49 million barrels from Saudi Arabia, or a percentage 44.3% of the total, and from Kuwait approximately 5.19 million barrels, or 7.3%, then Qatar, 3.42 million barrels, or 4.8%, and 0.6% from the neutral zone.

It is worth noting that imports from the UAE and Saudi Arabia amounted to 82.5% of Japan’s total oil imports in November 2024, which makes both countries important for Japan to maintain energy security.

The rest of Japan’s oil imports came from Central and South America at a rate of 1.8%, the United States of America at a rate of 1.7%, Australia at a rate of 0.9%, and East Asia at a rate of 0.4%, which shows a historical record increase in Japan’s dependence on the oil of Arab countries.
