Uruguayan player Acuña commits suicide in Ecuador

The Uruguayan striker, Matías Acuña, a player for the Mochouc Runa club, in the Ecuadorian Football League, died yesterday, at the age of 32, with the hypothesis of suicide likely, according to what the club announced.

The club said through its official account on the “X” platform: “We offer our condolences on the death of Matias Acuña.”

Club president Luis Chango told the Premesias website that “Matías Acuña committed suicide in a hotel” in the city of Ambato, which is located 112 kilometers from the capital, Quito.

He continued: “We will provide our full support for the procedures to return the body to its homeland. All members of Mushok Runa are horrified by this situation.”
